Chinese Automaker BYD Wants to Top Toyota by 2025

BYD, the Chinese automaker, is less than 15 years old, but the company wants to be the biggest automaker in the world by 2025, reports The Associated Press.

“It’s our company’s long-term target, to be China’s No. 1 automaker by 2015 and to be the world’s leading car maker by 2025,” said Jasmine Huang, a senior marketing representative for BYD.

The company, which was founded as a maker of cellphone batteries in 1995, has already achieved quite a bit in its short time in the auto business. Last December, BYD became the first automaker to sell a plug-in hybrid car, beating General Motors and Toyota to market. Warren Buffett owns a 10 percent stake in the company and recently stated his intentions of increasing his share.

I would say BYD needs to come up with original designs before Toyota brings them to market.

What's the point when the top executives from the company are rolling around in nicely equipped Asian specified Buick's, Cadillac's or a model from one of German's big 3?

They may be unheard of but with the population China has having a small market share is still hugely profitable.
