couple notes, how do they place the Toyota Corolla/Matrix as one car? Couldn't they just as easily place the impala/malibu as one car and say it gets in third place for selling 23526 vehicles? Other things to note, trucks are hard to compete with (I'm still baffled as to why there were no trucks on the north american truck of the year list) and the Impala did much better then I thought it would.

Wait, are you saying there isn't much similarity between an F-150 and an F-250? ffs the F-250 is nearly identical minus stiffer suspension .

The Impala/ Malibu are not on the same plateform. The Corolla/Matrix are technically the same car, sans, interior and some panels. No trucks, because no new ones were introduced for 2009.

lol are you kidding me there is no reason for that. Than place the DTS, Lucerne, and Impala as the same car. The Aura, Lacrosse, G6, and Malibu as the same car. Either way its not accurately reporting numbers. Or the expedition, navigator, and F150 all on the same line.....yeah

Matrix is the hatchback version of the Corolla, or at least that's the reasoning behind lumping the two together.

The Matrix looks nothing like the Corolla, you would be more accurate grouping the Matrix with the Vibe then you would with the Corolla.

for those who deboosted me... I believe I need to make a clarification to you, as the Vibe/Matrix are virtually identical cars and share the same platform with changes mainly in badging and body panels.

My argument was that the cars shouldn't be classified as the same o_O

I agree with Joe. While the Matrix is related to the Corolla, it is no more similar to the Corolla than the Subaru Forester is similar to the Impreza. Just because they are built on the same platform, they are not the same car. Back in the day, Chrysler/Dodge or Plymouth could have had the number one sales vehicles when every car they made in there perspective divisions were based on that cab forward platform.

It's called the Corolla Matrix, not just the Matrix. It is a Corolla.

Thats not the same as badge engineering. Toyota doesnt lump Camry with Lexus ES. And therefore you can't add the Vibe to the mix. It's a different brand.

And its not the same as just platform sharing. Camry, Avalon, Highlander, Venza, Sienna are all on the same platform and are not counted together. (They really should have called it the Camry Venza to do just that!)

The Matrix is a version of the Corolla, it is even in its official name. Just like the Camry coupe is still a Camry, but it is called a Camry Solara.

Other mfrs do this...
corsica/beretta was the classic example. Trucks are still doing it. silverado/silverado hd; f150/f250/f350

I've never heard of the Matrix referred to as the Corolla Matrix before in my life.

This is something Toyota has done for awhile. The Camry/ Solara would be rounded up as well.

I owned one. Trust me. It's a Corolla Matrix. Says so right on the owner's manual. BTW, the original XRS was a pretty badass little car, mine was solar yellow. It was hot.

Joe, lets put this wondering of yours to sleep shall we?

PRESS RELEASE:

October 31, 2007 – Las Vegas - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the all-new second-generation Corolla Matrix at a press conference today at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/31/sema-2007-2009-toyota-matrix-unveiled/

Along with the new 2009 Corolla, Toyota unveiled its closest sibling, the 2009 Corolla Matrix at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Think of it as a Corolla wagon, though Toyota would like you to believe it's inspired by crossovers and SUVs yet has the "soul of a two-door sports car. Sports cars, however, usually come with larger motors than what the Matrix is packing. The five-door hatch can be had with either a 1.8L four-cylinder producing 132 HP or a 2.4L four generating 158 HP, both of which are shared with the Corolla sedan. Trim levels for the Matrix are trimmed down to just the Standard, S and XRS. Both engines are available with any trim level, and are paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto with the 1.8L engine and five-speed auto with the 2.4L engine. The Standard model rolls on 16-inch steel wheels with a six-spoke wheel cover, while the S model gets 17-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels and the XRS wears 18-inch twin five-spoke rims.

Joe, I'm leasing one, a 2007 XRS and its a nice car, sporty without getting a ticket sporty. I'm done with this car though soon. Time to move on.

Then GM should count the Silverado and the Sierra as one and beat Ford as the sales champ. Toyota likes to have that title of best selling small car, blurs the lines, and have always counted the Corolla and Matrix together. Not accurate, but just how they do it.

We just leased a Lexus RX 350 and I see it made the list.

We can't drive a block here in Orange County, Ca without seeing a 2010 RX.
