Key architects of GM’s Chevrolet Volt program quits his position
The departure of one of the key architects of General Motors’ Chevrolet Volt program will not affect the launch of the Volt, according to a GM spokesman. Reportedly, Bob Kruse, GM’s executive director of vehicle engineering for hybrids, electric vehicles and batteries, quit in order to start his own consulting firm.

Micky Bly, a GM engineering veteran, will replace Kruse. Bly had worked on the Two Mode hybrid transmission, small-displacement engines and the electronic controls used in hybrid powertrains. Considered one of the most important vehicle launches in GM’s history, the plug-in Volt hybrid will debut late next year. It is believed that this vehicle could define GM’s role in the global competition among new green car vehicles.

Not surprising or unusual. Many designers and engineers get recognition or inspiration at one firm and then after time "t" they move on on their own. This isn't a bad thing either. That keeps the design and engineering iddeas fresh and diverse. I wish him all the best.
