Drive Right? Drive Left? Who Does What And Where

Drive Right? Drive Left? Who Does What And Where
If you have been abroad and done some globetrotting it is likely you have passed through a country that has different rules when it comes to the road.  For instance, numerous countries have rules that dictate what side of the road you drive on.

In this instance, I ran across a cool map that shows which country drives on each side of the road.

Enjoy....

Not all countries that drive on the left were British Colonies. Japan never was, and neither was Sweden (who switched over in the 1960s to driving on the right). Mozambique was never a British colony, but a Portuguese, and they drive left. As is the case with Suriname which was a Dutch colony, yet drives left. Indonesia was a Dutch colony but drives left. East Timor also drives left but was a Portuguese colony. As of September 7, 2009 Samoa changed from driving on the right to driving on the left, despite being a German colony previously. Now let's look at the former British colonies that drive right. United States, Canada, Belize, and Nigeria, among others. Gibraltar is still a British colony, but drives on the right. My point? It doesn't matter as long as people can get where they need to go. And let's not get into which side is correct and which side is wrong. It's so frigging childish it make me want to puke.

Driving on the left is as stupid as Americans not adopting the metric system..Some countries need to get with the program..

What happens when you cross a border and the next country switched to the other side? Didn't look at the map but I'm sure it's happened where you have to switch over lanes somehow.

When I drove in Bermuda I almost got into like 10 accidents. There are no traffic lights on the island and rotaries are easy to navigate. I wish we had more of them in the US.

But for me it was the looking that almost killed me. I was so accustomed and programmed when pulling out to look the opposite direction first, that I was very close in being introduced to the island hospital. After a week I got it fine, but when I came home, I had to re-train the brain as I almost died about 5 times shortly after getting back on US roads.
