If Toyota Actually Puts the FT-86 On The Showroom Floor Would You Consider It?
We brought you the first shots of Toyota's FT-86 sports car concept last week, and I have to admit that on the surface I am a fan of the design.

A vehicle such as the ft-86  is just what Toyota needs to start attracting a younger audience and add excitement to their line up.  To me that is a given as long as they give it some real power and performance or at least the ability to be tuned.  But with that being said I also wonder just how many of you are of the same opinion.

As we all know Toyota hasn't been known for a lot of excitement lately and the certainly have the resources to pull this off, but are seeds of change really there for them to go this far?   After all the bean counters have ruled the two decades, and while Toyota had been very profitable, they did so by becoming very predictable.

So take a look at these new shots and tell us if Toyota brought the FT-86 to the market quickly would you consider one? If not what would it take to make you take the plunge?

yes i would! its time for toyota to put out a nice rwd car to go up agains 370/genesis coupe/and other cars in the same niche, and i hope it'd be light too, to at least recover some spirit of the ae86 haha

It depends on if I can fit in the seat, if it can out perform the Hyundai Genesis Coupe V6 track, and if it has a navigation system and a turbocharged engine. So it has to line up a lot of ducks in a row to satisfy my needs/wants/desires.

Does it come with the floor mats already zip tied? I avoid cars with engines from other manufacturers and would thus buy the Subaru version over this. Subaru dealers are going to know this engine inside and out Toyota dealers are going to be confused when they open the hood and the pistons are laying on their sides.

I really wouldn't pay any money for a 4 cylinder "sport" car, this is a Scion with new looks. Toyota needs to bring the Supra back then they can say they have a sport car in their fleet.

And if they bring the Supra back, what's to stop you from calling that a Scion as well? Leave it to the crowd at this site to be disappointed in the first potentially-promising Toyota concept in years.

I would possibly consider it, but not when given the choice of a 370Z. I think it will be a very good alternative to younger high school and college ages kids who are also considering the Genesis coupe. The Genesis is the car that Toyota would be most successful and tagerting with this car.

sstainba: You are gay or a woman; I like and I love vaginas....is one of the most beautyful parts in a woman...so for me the CD Player looks ugly but never as a Vagina.

What looks ugly but feels good?

This car is a hard sell... considering that you can get over 300hp for $25,000 in a genesis coupe and for $22,680 in a Camaro. Or if you go cheaper yet, you can pick up a Mustang with 210hp for $20995. Yet if you buy this Toyota, you are limited to 160hp. It might weigh 500lbs less then the other cars listed, but that isn't enough to make up for half the power.

Give that man a gold star! Price has ALWAYS killed these cool little 4-cyl coupes. It's hard to convince yourself to buy some elegant little Japanese sports car when the hillbilly down the street in his 89' IROC Camaro can beat you silly. The ONLY way this thing works is with a turbo.

I've read otherwise. Most notably "The FT-86 makes its public debut as a concept at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. It uses a 2.0-litre boxer engine making a dismal 118kW (160hp). Some have said a more powerful version with about 147kW (200hp) is planned."

Besides, it is a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated engine. 160hp is about what it will make.

No, I wouldn't consider it. There are better alternatives out there which I would consider first before I even look at Toyota for the money.

If I were in the market for this class of car, then I would definitely consider, though it doesnt mean I would buy it.

With that said, because I'm not in the market for it, I would not consider it.

I would consider it. Cars like this, and the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky are my kinda sports cars. Very small, with small engines and light weight. However, I would only realy consider it if it had at least one "snail" bolted to the exhaust. Anybody who has never experienced the sound of a turbocharger whistling and sneezing hasn't lived. I'd buy a Corvette too, but that's for a different reason.

None of those cars are rwd. The reason why I am classifying it with the genesis coupe mustang and camaro is because they are all rwd cars in its price range.

Yes, this and the Suburu-side model as well. I will certainly be driving them when they hit the floors to see if I like what I see.
