SPIED: BMW 1-Series -- What Is It?! Tii/Supersport? X-drive? M1?

SPIED: BMW 1-Series -- What Is It?! Tii/Supersport? X-drive? M1?
Posted on 1addicts are very interesting shots of a 1-Series mule.

Elements to note:
  • Intercooler -- whatever the motor is, it is turbocharged
  • Carbon fiber roof -- a la M3
  • Front tire -- although no flares, poking out of stock 1-Series flare .5'' to 1''
  • Rear fender flares -- significantly wider than 'regular' 1-Series.
  • Exhaust -- looks more serious than 135i
  • Tires/wheels -- wearing bigger/stickier rubber
  • Rear brakes -- look similar to M3
Seeing these things, what could it be?  Is it the long-awaited Tii/Supersport? An M1 or CSL variant?  Some have speculated X-drive but I do not see any validity in that claim.

Sweeeeeeeet!

Definitely must be the M1/tii. Same features as the tii concept car. How do you think BMW will market it? M1 for the M-car loving crowd or tii for the history? I'll bet on it being called the M1 but hope for a tii badge.

It's the new 1er mule.

bump the output of the twin turbo 3.0L to 380hp and 420lb-ft (easily achievable at virtually zero cost to BMW), tune out the understeer from the standard 135i (again, virtually no cost to BMW, they already have the suspension parts available), and give the car the M LSD, and you have a pretty killer entry level M car.

Keep dreaming.

BMW is not gonna do that, because it'll kill M3, M5, M6, then BMW won't make any money. That's against they core belief.

no offense but you're 100% wrong. Why would that kill the others? The existence of the M3 hasn't killed the M5 or M6, and I don't think a small $50k coupe would kill $65k M3 and $90k M5 sedans either. The Z4 M Coupe didn't kill the other M's. Now that it's gone I could easily see this taking its place as the smallest, lightest, most nimble M model. The various M models are all totally different cars, at totally different price levels.

For the upper-scale models, they should make the taillights LED strips only. To clarify what I mean: I love those LED strips on the facelifted 5-series, but I hate the taillights when the brakes are applied. Those brake lights look cheap - bright, conspicuous, and safe, but not pretty.

BMW is offering a performance upgrade already for the 135 & 335 cars. it bumps up the HP to 320hp & up to 317 lbs of torque. 0 to 60 is slated to be 0.2 seconds quicker to 60 mph.

I driver a 135 coupe & the car is awesome. I have a short shift kit & the M sports package on mine. It is the best BMW I have ever owned & that is saying alot since I traded in my 2008 BMW 535i Sport package sedan w/ Sport Auto Transmission to get it.

I will be upgrading the suspension & chip early next year. Can't wait.
