2007 Toyota Camry: The grim reaper for Ford and GM hits dealers in March

Looks promising if you were to only compare it with the out-going model, but in all respects it is mediorce.

Uninteresting designs and dynamics mated with good value and reliability seem to be Toyota's winning formula.

To change their formula would be foolish, but here's a question. Aren't the car-buying public sick of boring cars?

When you compare this car overall to the American machines, Detroit will have some sleepless nights. Yes the design is a little bland but I feel that the interior looks to be a homerun as far as build quality and materials. And since most people that buy cars tend to spend most of their time in one, I feel Toyota has done a good job. If American car companies could make their plastics feel more inviting, than I think it would help alot. But looking at current GM interiors, i think it's safe to say Toyota need not worry. I like the metal look in the one photo and like the clearish blue-green plastic around the radio controls.

It's really disturbing to me how similar the toy/lexus are beginning to look.

at least the older models looked different.

So now BMW's flame surfacing that was critized so much is being copied by everyone! I guess when something good and amazing comes out everyone is critical of it at first, seeing as how BMW sales are soaring through the roof. BMW has set the standered for car design for this decade. Hell even their iDrive concept is being copied by everyone.

The camry looks good, but it will be overpriced just like all their other cars, 30k+ for a highlander!! comeone.. i can get a Nissan Murano that looks leaps and bounds better than that ugly thing.

Instead of a Camry for XLE for like 30-33k, I'd rather go with a BMW 325i for 37-39k.

What can i say or add in my comment to glorigy the supreme Camry,It's the ultiamte mid-size saloon and i believe no other car in it's category can touch it or even come closer to it in value,value for money,sales,lucrative for the company,reliability....etc

And with time it's strengh has increased massively and remarkbly.

Offcouse this will sell,maybe 2X the numbers of cars sold in 2005.

And yeah there is even a hybrid varient....my God,
I think who will now even look at other cars in it's class/category.

9. Lincoln Zephyr - Proof that there is a crack problem in detroit.

I was embarrased when my parents bought me a zephyr bike when I was 6, because fo the name, now they want you to spend 40k car a car w/ the same name? Imagine telling your friends "I drive a 2006 zephyr." no matter what something just sounds wrong with it.

..atleast Toyota gets it. Look at the panel gaps on that interior!

Now, I have no idea what goes through some of you guys heads when you judge a car, but seriously, this interior is not that special.

It has tight-fitting panel gaps. Check. All Toyota's do.

It has a pretty non-descript design, just like all Toyota's.

It is drab, lacking in any sort of style, and so they through in a bit of ill-placed wood for effect. Good on them.

Lexus-style interior? That doesn't say much for Toyota's premium brand, now does it?

Are guaranteed once this baby hits the showrooms. Maybe we'll start to see ads like "Buy a new 2006 Impala and get another one of equal or lesser value free". Although that probably still wouldn't be good enough for most people...

This might actually be good for the American car companies...it will help drag them into bankruptcy faster so they can finally shake off those money-sucking union parasites and be able to get competitive.

You could mistake this car for the new ES. In my opinion looks better than the current ES. This car uses the same materials and parts that they use on the Lexus. That is why they are running away with the lead. They have taken the best selling car on the planet to another level...

with the launch of the '08 Accord. Hopefully they can do it in spring '07. '06 ain't gonna be a pretty year for Accord sales.

I can't wait to see what Honda comes up with; I'm sure we'll see lots of Acura touches. I'm also very curious to see what the V6 will be...you know they're not going to let toyota trump them with their 268HP engine..

I love reading the comments - particularly the unintelligent, biased ones (whether pro or anti-Toyota) so keep 'em coming

What matters is not what I think . . . but what the shoppers who want a car in the $20-30K think. In recent years they have voted with their money disproportionately for Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords.

For what its worth [not much] I think this Camry will be a short term winner - but its looks will age rapidly - and I expect to see sales decline sharply in calendar 2007 or 2008. I also expect Avalon sales to decline, as this Camry will surely steal some sales from its larger stablemate.

Toyota is probably already working on the next version of the Camry - and I expect it in four years rather than five. That's Toyotas advantage - the ability to redesign rapidly and to keep churning out model updates - whereas the US brands let top products (Ford Taurus, Ford Focus, Pontiac Bonneville, etc. etc.) linger like dead fish rather than update them.

American car makers need to do what the Japanese did when they came to America: Study the competition that is successful and improve on it.

They cannot do this, not because they don't want to, but because their costs are too high to move quickly.

The American car companies are like an aging heavyweight that throws slow punches in the ring with the Japanese that are lean and quick.

Stevie Wonder can see that the heavyweight will eventually get knocked out!

the camry's interior looks over done a bit to tall looking.The ground effect kits form the company seems like they are superglued on,it does not look flush it looks chunky.GM'S interiors have been greatly improved and offer far better looking vehicles,ford still trying hard. Gm does not have to worry about this car,the impala ss looks far better with more power and agressive looks.

Typical media pro-Toyota bias. The new Camry is 177lbs heavier, 1" wider, and yet has less passenger space and less cargo space than its predecessor. If an American automaker had done this, it would be raked over the coals for its irresponsibility.

The impala SS is one of the ugliest cars on the road. If you want to own a rental car, this is what you buy.
