Buick Continues To Build Product Line, Possibly Add Riviera To Line-Up
For those that remember back in 2007 at the Shanghai Motor Show, GM-China showed the Buick Riviera Coupe' Concept. The car wowed the public but GM wasn't in the position to bring the it to market. Fast forward to the Tuesday's meeting this week with GMC-Buick dealership in Detroit and it was revealed to GMI that Buick management has requested that Buick add the Riviera to further the brands revitalization. This of course would be Buick's halo car. If the coupe' was ever produced, it would ride on the Episilon II platform. Perfect timing. GM is losing their last midsize coupe' (Pontiac G6 ) The Riviera would compete with Lexus IS Coupe, Infiniti G-37.

yumm, it will be interesting to see the production version. Somehow I doubt it will have Camaroesque stay true to concept looks.

I like the latest models coming out of Buick's design camp. They're cars seem to be more attractive and is slowly stepping away from the "oldman's luxury car" look. The younger crowd now has an alternative. Buick should be an alternative to Cadillac.

I don't think the Riviera would compete directly with the IS or the G37. Those cars are rear drive, for starters. I think the CTS Coupe will fill that gap. Unless, of course Buick borrows the Sigma platform and makes it rear drive. Either way, the Riv would lean more to the luxury side of the sport-luxury formula, making it even less competition for the two Asians.

The Riviera of the past was always one of GMs vehicles that stood out. Always had cool gimics. This was one model along with the older caddys that I had some respect for.

Looked at the new Lacrosse last week. A RIviera with that kind of style would sell.
