The Best Winter Sports Cars, Porsche? Audi? Lamborghini?!!?

For those of us not living in SoCal paradise, it is time to start gearing up for the long, cold winter months.  Time to break out the chains and get out the wool coats.

Pardon the German translation from Auto-Motor-Und-Sport:

"When the temperatures fall to minus temperatures and snow-covered roads and ski trails, it attracts the skiers to the mountains and on the slopes.
But a lot will have to travel over ice and snow to the real adventure, especially if the mobile frame is not properly prepared.

The basic equipment includes - regardless of the drive concept of winter tires. For, whether front, rear or all-wheel drive, traction tires are the special beneficial in any case.  And even when braking, the winter tires are superior to summer by far, even on a four-wheel model. Who is driving high-altitude regions should carry offer matching chains. Dry runs before the domestic garage also facilitate the creation of the chains if necessary...."

I'd have to say R8.

I can't imagine the oversteer in the Porsche with the engine swing around in the back.

And The Lambo is too low.

I agree you don't need power in the snow, so the R8's lack of it would probably be an advantage. And the 911 handles well till you push it past its limits... then it drives like a hammer. And when it comes to snow, ever corner is at or past the limit :P

The R8 is way too low stock, BTW.

Can barely get it into my driveway and it does not have a steep incline. The Lamborghini at least has the benefit of a lift system where the R8 lacks this.

You know what's funny...

Either way VW wins! lol

Actually the rear wheel drive 911 is great in the snow and the awd 911's are better yet. Driven them in snow for many years and they handle it better than most cars that one would think of as snow cars - the rear engines over the back wheels is the reason why.

I would love a 911 4S -- for me, it is the perfect all around sports car. Throw some snow tires on during the winter and almost nothing will stop you.

Personally, I prefer normally aspirated engines.

Dunno, but SoCal is hardly paradise in any case

just watched the video - surprised how bad an awd car can be in the snow also surprised anyone would present this film as a positive showing. Looks like a real pig in bad weather.

In case you're blind, that proves NISSAN's AWD is better and lighter than piggy system found in AUDI. :)

The GT-R would be awesome in the snow! An AWD supercar!!

the GT-R was very impressive. the driver was drifting with great ease, like it was on pavement.

I digress it isn't driving like this that kills them. The majority of the time it is not being able to stop in time for an intersection. The other bit of the time it is driving at regular high way speeds and finding a patch of black ice. I for one really enjoy winter driving it keeps my attention on the road.

@Joe

Right on!

Driving in the snow can be some of the most fun, granted, it must be done in a safe environment.

Personally, I love driving during blizzards when NO ONE is on the roads.
