Mazda wants to make sportier cars and a new RX-7
If the new design boss of Mazda had his way, there will be a new RX-7 two-seater sports car next year. In an interview done the day before the Tokyo Motor Show opens, Ikuo Maeda said he has already prepared sketches of an RX-7 replacement. He said that Mazda is keen towards building this model but that it will only get done if the market allows for it.

Maeda has his work cut out for him to convince senior Mazda management to greenlight the project. It’s likely that the new RX-7 would have a rotary engine powering it, like all of its predecessors. It is Maeda’s intention to rejuvenate the entire Mazda line-up. He wants to push the brand upmarket improving the cars’ interiors.

You do realize that the majority of Mazda's are rebadged Fords?

Nope, my moms Mazda 6 had the same engine as my Mercury cougar had. Hell it even had the same style of air vents.

Mazda=Lincoln? That doesn't tie in very well with zoom zoom. I think Mazda is exactly where it wants to be. Catering mass produced fun cars.

You seem to have a vast amount of information at hand, as well as the interest to do something with it. Now you need to find a way to put it together into coherent thoughts that are less abstract. You could become a significant asset to this site if you were to do this.

I say go for it. It shouldn't be hard, but dig this, make it in the same vein as the Toyota FT-86. I also say the time is right for a spiritual successor to the RX-3, which could easily be done up as a coupe version of the Mazda3...as was the case with the original RX-3 and the Familia (which became the 323/Protege later in life in external markets).
