Colorado Gets Serious About Being Green By Offering A $42,000 Tax Credit If You Buy A Tesla!
The state of Colorado is trying to encourage the adoption of "alternative fuel vehicles" by offering tax credits based on the difference in cost between the said vehicle and a comparable non-green version. This means you could get about $3k in tax credit on a 2010 Toyota Prius or 2010 Honda Insight, or even $3.8k on a Honda Civic GX that runs on compressed natural gas. But the real eye-popper is the rebate on the all-electric Tesla Roadster: $ 42,083. That's about 38% of the car's $109k sticker price!

What a bunch of whackjobs. The money they give in tax breaks could go to much more meaningful things than allowing someone to purchase a Tesla for 30-40k. Although at that price I would probably do it, then resell it in another state for 5-10k off sticker and make some cash to buy a REAL car.

Yep, what Colorado needs ZEV 2 seaters with no trunk.
Will the offer a 38% off MSRP of a Nissan Leaf?

no, there is no rebate on the smart car.

38% off a Nissan Leaf, LOL. Now that would be comical. Do these people still get to drive solo in the diamond lane or get free passes on bridges?

No it is not comical, it would actually make sense since fewer than 10 tax filers may take advantage of the tax credit, but common sense is not know in which ever planet you spend most of your time.
