BMW Playing Hard To Get? 5-Series GT M Not In The Works

According to AUTOCAR, based out of the U.K., BMW sources have said it will not be producing a 5-Series GT M.

AUTOCAR reports:

"A company source told Autocar there are no plans for a hot GT, and the range topper will remain the twin-turbo V8 550i."

The first thing that comes to mind is BMW's denial of an sport utility M, which we now see being produced as the X5/6 M.

Then there is the last generation Z4, whose M plans were up in the air.  After a long time coming, both roadster and coupe variants were produced using the E46 M3's powerplant.

If M GmbH has enough brass to produce the X5/6 M, I am pretty sure it was at least discussed.  Perhaps after the GT proves itself through successful sales numbers they will introduce a special sport model -- a la X5 4.6/4.8 iS -- to test the waters.

If BMW thought there was so much pent-up demand for a freaking 5 series HATCHBACK, then why wouldn't people also be clamoring for an M version? ;-)

Ja ja , may be they just realize that the 5GT won't have too much demand...

Why not make am M version. They did for the X6 and finally for the X5, don't see why they don't just finish up and do the whole lineup.

They need to make another M roadster.

surprise, surprise! well then again not really because it's not quite an SUV/SAV or whatever they call it. that seems to be the only things bmw is interested in now anyway.
