Bmw considering adding four-cylinders engines to the 5-Series GT
Earlier today we reported that the 5-Series GT will not receive an M-version, a news that will make many of the Bmw fans sad. Still, we have some good news regarding the 5-Series GT: Bmw is considering adding four-cylinders engines in order to make the car more affordable.

According to our sources, the twin-turbo diesel will be the first engine to be introduced on the 5-Series GT and then a cheaper four-cylinder could arrive. The one used on the 320d.

This vehicle is specifically targeted to an older demographic which BMW sees as an area of growth, hence no sport version. The smaller engines make it more affordable as the article points out.

Oh please BMW .....no sence on that choice..4 cylinders are too weak for a car in this category of weight...same posible election for the S class if my mind recall it right, I hope they don't pick those engines for those cars.

"I have to agree with you on this one yonder, a 4 cylinder is not a premium engine what so ever."

REALLY?

The world's first luxury cars from Europe and the US had how many cylinders under the hood?

Oh...

You mean like the beautifully balanced, very quick, 4-Cylinder E30 M3 Sport Evolution that I owned for (almost) 6 years?

Now please consider the fact that the current gen m3 weighs 1000lbs more then the E30...

The V8 version is EPA rated 15/21, not very good, but the 5 GT is huge. Maybe a 6 cylinder version will come to the US?

The normally aspirated 2.0L N46 (I4) puts out 150hp in its best tune. Dropping a turbo (or two, since BMW has an affinity for that arrangement these days) would easily bring that power output to over 270hp (2hp more than the 3.0L N53 (I6). The diesel speaks for itself.
