Porsche's 997 GT3 RS Chases Down Nissan's GT-R On The Ring

Porsche's 997 GT3 RS Chases Down Nissan's GT-R On The Ring
Eager to obtain the best time on its turf, it seems that Porsche has been working hard to best the Nissan GT-R at the Nurburgring.

The time to beat is 7:26.70.

Although they have yet to reach that point and juncture, the latest lap from a Porsche was the 997 GT3 RS that achieved a time of 7:33.  Mind you this is six seconds faster than Porsche's own flagship, the Turbo.  That is an eternity in terms of track times.

Congrats to Porsche for making yet another step. When will they surpass the GT-R?

It's sad to say but Porsche can not beat a GTR around a track no matter what because the rear weight biased completely messes up the car's balance. The only Porsche that can beat a GTR is a race car spec GT3 Cup car. The Porsche does have nicer breaks though and will probably have a higher resale value and last longer because their NORMAL 6 speed manual gearbox is made out of the strongest stuff on the planet. The porsche also gives more tactile driver feedback at 9/10ths then becomes a helicopter at 10/10ths and will spin when the GTR's robotic awd supercomputers adjust everything and pull away. Alas....To beat a GTR you need Ferrari 458 Italia money TO HAVE A PROPER MID ENGINE and 300KG of down force with a lighter aluminum monocoque chassis and superior ceramic brakes and a zoomy e-diff vectoring torque left to right even faster then the GTR can manage with a quicker 7 speed gearbox that only takes 10 milliseconds.to swap cogs

"I ONLY CARE ABOUT THE FERRARI'S"

I would really like to know car would come first after 10 laps...
I mean, the GTR, with all that weight, it must have an impact on fuel cunsumption, tyres and brakes wear ?

If it was a real race, not a single lap, what car will ultimately win, the 911 Turbo or the GTR ?

It's so funny how one claim about one car can make people go crazy.

the carrera gt beat the gt-r on the ring though. hell eitherway it doesnt matter. its a more desirable car in all aspects. thats why people get hyper cars. the gt-r is not a hyper car. it's a fast sports car made by an economy brand. i would never pay that much for a cgt but i would also never spend that much on a nissan. my 300zx will run close with the gt0r for a fraction of the price.

Although race cars have nothing in common with production cars, here they are anyways:

It doesn't matter if the Porsche beats the GT-R or not. The GT3, 911 Turbo, GT2 still have incredibly fast times on the ring. They're all great cars it's just certain cars are built better for the track. No big deal life moves on. :) that's as neutral as I can put it without being biased towards any cars on this elite list of ring monsters.

I'm just curious, but has anybody other then Nissan ever recorded a 7:26 for a GTR. Not to bring up all the old issues, but there seems to be far more GTR 'ring numbers higher than 7:26 published and very few (other than that famous Nissan claim) at the 7:26 time.

I too think it was a lightweight version, without the sound system, airbags and rear seats. Also probably without the catalyst..

No way it was street legal.

Whore, just by its weight, the GTR is flawed.
Where did you get your weight figures ? in your whore head I guess ?

It's not because you ask 20 bucks for a ... that everyting weights about 20 ....

I think the GTR is an incredible car, but I still think the 'Ring times are inflated. Its really brilliant marketing...

I don't think they can beat the GT-R and this one is not even the V-Spec version. Porsche makes great sport cars, but I think it is time to admit that the GT-R is the better performer. It doesn't make Porsche any less great, there is only room for one at the top. Good job Porsche, good job Nissan!

Isn't the V-Spec out already? Why haven't they done a lap around the ring yet?

Act Two is coming:

2010 911 Turbo v. GTR - someone somewhere soon will be showing the new turbo taking on (and likely beating) the GTR.

How many of you idiots debating this are going to the track? (and can actually make the car do these supposed times)

Bottom line 99.9% of the people debating or posting here can't afford either car. Get a life.

Nissans Godzilla will never be beaten by Porsche. No matter how many guns and weapons porsche throws at Nissan...price, performance can never be defeated.

According to Sportauto Supertests, the Nissan GTR ran it in 7:38 and the Porsche 911 GT3 997MkII ran it in 7:40.

What's more disturbing than the fanboys on forums is that Porsche tested the GTR and claimed that a faster time than 7:54 was not possible.
