HOLY Genesis Coupe Ripoff! Upcoming Subie A Little TOO Similar?
We had this article up earlier and it was my first chance to look at it.
Is it just me or is this future Subie a TOTAL front end ripoff of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe?
Sure looks that way to me.

I wish there was a choice of the Front from Subie and Back of the Toy.

BTW, comparing a photoshop rendering with a tuner car is kinda fallacious.
Weak journalism.

Badgewhore, that's funny. I believe you meant to say CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS.
All of them "whores" to the white house, just like you are to badges.

Hyundai is the one that need to be ashame. They copy their design from the Infiniti G35. And not of only that it look like a Sub and Toyota design to me.

Since that is basically an Impreza front bumper, I guess the current Impreza is a Genesis copy as well? Also add that Subaru didn't do this photoshop, so how is Subaru copying Hyundai? I'm really sure that Subaru will be using this design in 2012 when the Impreza will be getting ready for a full redesign again. This chop doesn't even have the grill shape that will be used in Subaru design.
Stuff like this is why I don't check this site as much anymore. It's so much easier to just go to the sources instead of here being just a dump site (usually several days later after news breaks).

I remember the days when Autospies had a much stronger focus on being *informative*. I miss those days. Perhaps I am in the minority.

yup.
they have similar headlamp housings. but NOTHING ELSE looks alike. (other than having 4 tires and the generic fastback shape).
it never ceases to amaze me that some peeple see ONE common element and make like the WHOLE CAR is a clone of some other car.

Well it's not like subaru's are known for creativity or good looks any way. I mean, look at their buyers, not the most tasteful bunch. And dont get me started on the go-kart engine notes.

Where is the similarity? If anything subaru's headlights look like G37. Bumper and bonnet scoop is pure Subaru.

I'd say the Subie looks more G37 than Genesis Coupe. The G-coupe looks like an updated and enlarged Tiburon basically. This has much lower lines and a more crisp styling.
There are plenty of other look-alikes that were WAY to similar. How about Kia a few years back when they tried to make a SUV with a slotted grille that was very close to the Jeep trademarked 7 slots. Or how Kia's Forte Coupe looks like a twin of the current Civic. Or keep going to say that the Sonata looks very close to the last generation Honda Accord, tail and all.

The Subaru also does not have the strande rear window or the z crease like the Hyundai. Any coupe of similar size is going to look similar it is a question of porportions and these both have the correct porportions.

Seems like the Japanese Subaru is copying the Korean Hyundai these days...
This is another Subaru concept at Tokyo Motor Show 2009 that has copied Hyundai's newly released Tucson IX (look particularly at the similar hexagonal grill):

FYI, this is the newly released Hyundai Tucson IX:

All Cars Look Alike...because they don't want to alienate the Sheeple with something they are "not used to seeing"
With all due respect to HyundaiSmoke....The Sube (in AWD) will kick the Genesis BUTT!

As if Hyundai never copied anyone right..? Anyways if you just look at teh side, it reminds me of an RX-8 moreso than a Genesis. Anyways I like it, good looking car!

This is kind of funny, especially considering that Hyundai ripped of the old G35 coupe. At least the Toyota version will be a good alternative and give the Genesis coupe some competition.

a while back, an article in Autoweek took on this issue of styling copies.
it pointed out that considering the lead times between design, prototyping, tooling, production, distribution, etc., it is IMPOSSIBLE for any company to "copy" a design from another company within less than 3-5 years. any and ALL similar design elements on competing cars seen afresh in the same model year or close to it are just COINCIDENCES. further, not even surprising coindcidences, as all stylists are EXPOSED TO THE SAME origianl INFLUENCES.
that said, some companies (based on a certain politically divided peninsula, ahem) have been known to 'borrow' styling elements from other brands, after a few years. they've even borrowed from several different cars for a single model, putting together a hodge-podge of borrowed styling elements.
