REVIEW: TomTom Car Kit For iPhone, What Is Its Purpose?

REVIEW: TomTom Car Kit For iPhone, What Is Its Purpose?
Here's the low down, VIA Engadget:

"Boy, TomTom sure has chosen the worst possible time to release its Car Kit for iPhone, and to make matters worse, its decision to not include the iPhone app is now set in stone. That's right, the hardware alone will set you back the cost of a TomTom ONE nowadays, and the $99.95 app works on the iPhone 3G and 3GS without it. So here's the question: is the car kit worth the extra $119.95? To find out, we got hold of a review unit for a sunny road trip around London...."

So, what's this mean?

Essentially, the TomTom Car Kit operates marginally better and it is sleeker than the run-of-the-mill phone holder.  But when you start adding up the costs of the system ($120 for the kit + iPhone app) it does not bear a considerable value-add.  Engadget insists that if you are GPS-less, it MAY be worth it, but for anyone else you would be better off simply buying a separate TomTom unit.

This is complete money waste. Jail break your iPhone
and get X-Gps for free. I laugh at ppl that pay for
this stuff. X-Gps also works with google maps so it's
always up to date.

Apple is just looking for another way to get $$$ away from their uninformed customers.
