INTERVIEW: The Low-Down Details On The M3 GTS

INTERVIEW: The Low-Down Details On The M3 GTS
Although the official press release is a good place to start digesting information on this proper BMW Motorsport model, we dug up something a bit more revealing.

Below, we have an interview with Markus Schadow.  Besides having a really cool name, Schadow provided M-Power with some really interesting insights into the M3 GTS and provided some details as to how it ended up in its final trim.

Read on below:

MPW: Mr. Schadow, the BMW M3 GTS has clearly visible dynamic measures with its front splitter and rear wing.  The aerodynamics of the BMW M3 GTS is clear for all to see. Optimised for downforce. Why?

Schadow: The power which can be transferred from the contact area of the tyres to the road depends on tyre properties, the position of the tyre on the road  - i.e. axle kinematics - and the wheel vertical force. Our measures are all about increasing the wheel vertical force. The higher the wheel vertical force, the higher the level of longitudinal and transverse acceleration which can be achieved.
MPW: An increase in vehicle weight would also increase wheel vertical force ...

Schadow: (laughs). That's certainly true. But more mass also generates greater forces of inertia and centrifugal forces.....

While the color is questionable, the engineering is above reproach.

Too close to the GT3 orange for me. I need something more original from BMW. Laguna Seca Blue anyone? ;-)

Laguna Seca BluE....I cant argue with that but the GT3 orange is orignal to the public from BMW but as far as racing we have seen it already. They finally are going to make a CSL version of the M3 available in the U.S (hopefully). This will be the 1st ever 6 figure BMW 3 series they have produced I think they should have squeezed that V10 monster in there. They finally have a car that can compete with the CLK Balck Series I would love to see these 2 cars go at it. I think mercedes did a great job with this car but my thing is will it be street legal or just for the track?????????????????????????????

B7FAN: Sorry man but you are totaly wrong, The CLK is great as an "luxury sport car" and it have all the regular luxury and comfort as any regular MB. The CLK lose weight replacing fenders and internal panels for CF and it does not lose so many weight cause beside that the add several oil coolers, no rear seat and composite ceramic breaks, but AC and electric everything still there. CLK is a good performer on the road and on the track but is not totaly oriented to the track as the M3GTS, to be fair with benz you would have to remove AC, electric windows and mirrors entertainment system, cruise control, Powere tilt stering, etc., and with Benz....it is not going to happen dude.

That rear wing is not a 'ricer' wing, it's the krauted out version of a wing. I'm inclined to believe it costs about a buck fifty.
