WHICH Would You Have? The Comparison No One Has Made: BMW 7-Series Vs. Porsche Panamera
A comparison no one has genuinely sat down and tested, nor spoken about, is BMW's iconic 7-Series head-to-head with the all-new Panamera.

The 7 now has all-wheel drive and is ready to take on the AWD players -- the S-Class 4MATIC, Audi A8.

At Porsche's U.S. introduction of the Panamera, the brand spoke about competing against the 7-Series, now let's see how it holds up.

But, more importantly, what would you pick if you had the opportunity?

Would you stick to the technological wunderkind 7 OR would you take a walk on the wild side and hop in the Panamera?

Auto Motor Und Sport Reports:

"Around 400 hp and four-wheel drive packed to five meters in length - this can be both.
But the question remains how sporty the turbocharged BMW is and how comfortable the Porsche V8-sucker really moves...."

Results on here will skew reality, but I too would choose the Panamera. Most of the people buying these aren't wanting that sporty of a car and will stick with the traditional sedans. They can get a real, dedicated sports car if they want one.

I'll take the 7. Because 4 doors on a Porsche is about as sensible as Ferrari making an SUV. But again, it's my opinion.

Two completely different cars and buyers.

My thought exactly, the BMW isn't a sports car.

And I would choose neither, 2 doors only please :)

um, there'a a REASON porsche developed a sedan and priced in smack in the middle of the 7-series and the S-class.....SURPRISE, it's supposed to compete with them.

just pick the one that offers your desired combination of sportiness and luxury.

With the recent release of the updated S class and next years next-gen A8, this will be the ranking:

1)A8
2)S class
3)Quattroporte
4)Panamera
5)Lexus LS
6)7 Series

No doubt about this list...

Where is the Jaguar? I would say:

1)Quattroporte
2)A8
3)Jaguar
4)S Class
5)Panamera
6)7 Series
7)Lexus LS

The 7 is a traditional, large sedan what happens to drive great. The Panamera is purpose built to be a near supercar that can carry four people comfortably. There is no comparison. The 7 should be compared to the S-Class.

I would not compare the 7 series to the panerama. I could see a comparison with the M5, but someone with enough coin could realistically own both of these cars to serve completely different purposes. All they have in common is that both of them have 4 doors...........

I don't read German, and the Google translation was pretty much unintelligible, but for all the commentary on here it should be noted that the 750i xDrive won the comparison that this thread was about.

Would have to choose the Porsche, though the 7 series does not compete with this car, so not sure why anyone would compare them.

Simple: Panamera. Leave the 7 to fight the S

I have driven both and would agree with most. YOu should try and find a M Sport Package 750ix with the 20" wheels on it. That would compare more favorable to the handling of the Porsche. In this example it was just a regular 750li awd. The handling difference are going to be great.

I dontcare to much for the Porsche. The front looks sharp, but the back end is just too much. I think it looks bad.

No comparison actually. The Panemera is the definition of ugly. Its actually uglier than the previous 7. The dynamics is impressive, but i prefer the 7. In reality. I would take neither. If i wanted comfort (which is what these cars really end up doing in a 60km/h zone), I'd take the S-class.

They are not really in the same market...
I thought the Panamera is more like a M5 competitor. Well, At least until BMW has something like CS concept.

Even though I don't think the 7 and the Panamera really compete with each other. I'd buy the Porsche hands down without a doubt. BMW's have gotten uglier with each generation. They tried with the new 7 but they missed with the grilles.
The front end of the 7 is hideous and truthfully im not a big fan of the Panameras rear end. But at the end of the day I think the Panamera would be a much more fun car to drive, it has comp;arable luxo features and, the turbo and probably the 4S are faster and I think that the Panamera will be a much more rare care. For those reasons its Porsche all day long.

CTS-V blows them both away for far less money. Better ride too.

I saw a few Panamera parked in a parking lot a few weeks back when a local Porsche dealership displayed it and although I am not a total fan of the looks, I must say, it does have road presence!

And after I saw the performance of the Panamera Turbo on Road and Track, I am convince this car will certainly change the landscape of the 4 door sports car!!!

I really like Porsche cars, but the Panamera is the exception. The rear half is malformed to the point of being grotesque. It would loose many comparisons on looks alone.

7-Series. Impossible to get past the Panamera ugliness.

Considering how expensive loaded versions of these two cars are, why not throw the Bentley Continental Flying Spur into the comparison as well?
