Is THIS The New Car GM Should Be Sending Across The Pond?
With GM's product line up looking for winners, it is nice to see when something takes home the crown.  Especially when it is a small car.

Opel's Astra has made an extremely good name for itself overseas, so, we have to wonder, when will it be coming HERE.

GM realized they had a winner on their hands with the Opel Insignia and now we'll finally be getting a taste of the infamous European Car of the Year in form of the Buick Regal.

So, when will they be sending over the latest Astra in a repackaged Buick or other GM?

AutoExpress reports:

"The all new Vauxhall Astra has been handed the Golden Steering Wheel award in the compact class... despite not even going on sale until December 11th....

They already were sending it across the pond. It was called the Saturn Astra. Although they failed to give it the proper redline treatment with a turbo 4 a la Chevy Cobalt SS. But that was due to the fact that Saturn was already in a big decline. The ION was a horrible car and not a good follow-up to the popular S-series.

But back to the Astra. Would you then move the current Vibe to Chevy alongside this or be done with the Vibe and make the Astra a Chevy brand. Although that may interfere with teh upcomign Cruze if that is offered in hatchback form. But what of the HHR, although that too could be kept as it is a niche vehicle. I think they may have some thinking to do because I personally would rather see the Vibe go Chevy and be given SS treatment with a Cobalt SS engine 240hp turbo.

Right, but now Saturn is dead.

I am going with 1UAW on this. Buick is going through a revitalization process and if my memory serves me correct there was a small sedan concept on the floor in Buick's design studio.

Looked eerily familiar just in sedan form.

The Saturn Astra failed before Saturn was shut down. It sold worse than the Ion did. A new one will do just as poorly.

GM desperately needs something like this to compete with the fiesta

The Chevy Aveo is just not cutting it anymore, they need to get a real car to compete with the Fiesta and now would be a good time as the Fiesta is most likely going to blow the doors off any similarly priced Yaris, Fit, Versa. At least thats my thoughts. Looks alone of the upcoming car seem very promising.
