Cadillac Green Lights The Converj - Will You Be First To In Line To Get One?

General Motors Co. has decided to produce the Cadillac Converj, an extended-range electric car using the same technology as the Chevrolet Volt, The Detroit News has learned.

Cadillac included the Converj, a concept car that wowed industry critics and the public at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, in a presentation made to the automaker's board of directors Nov. 2, according to sources familiar with the production plan.

A production date has not been set, and it likely will be a few years before consumers can buy a Converj.

I thought GM was supposed to learn from Toyota. They waited to see if the Prius would be a success before releasing the Lexus version. GM should wait and see if the volt will be a success before making the cadillac version

I was hoping it would have been a conventional car, instead of a reskinned Volt. Let's see what will finally happen, since it is several years away.

As far as gm designs go, that's one hell of a compliment.

Much rather have this than the God-awful Lexus HS.

I doubt I could afford it... but if I could, I would rather get this than a 6 series/ Cayman

Maybe figure out what the Converj is supposed to be before commenting.

The design is slick. I'm sure a lot of people wish GM was making a ICE version first, just to get the model on the roads sooner. Then later release the electric version after seeing how well the Volt does here and maybe overseas.

I just hate those weird, skinny headlights, since with them, the space between the lights and the grille is humongous.

I believe in mandatory drug testing for GM's designers.

Sounds like they should have the production model by 2015...hahaha...how can a private company like Fisker create something similar so quickly when it takes a huge company like GM many years to develop???

Larger companies typically have longer response times, so many more people working on a project means that communications and confirmations between colleagues all adds up.

I would buy one if I was forced to buy a hybrid.

I wonder if the production version will preserve the 2 door coupe in the production version. Back when production was rumored I know their was talk about it going to a four door?
If they switch it to a four door I'm afraid it might be doomed to be volt with a cadillac badge.
Then again the Lexus HS is an ugly four door hybrid and it's apparently selling well.
If Cadillac is the first luxury automaker to bring an EV into production that would great for sales.

It's beautiful. Let's just hope that the production version does not get too watered down like so many concept cars do.

Toyota is already being successful with the HS250. I would much rather have something like this than a small Corolla looking Hybrid with Lexus badging.

If this Caddy is built by the UAW I will never buy it.

The wrinkled, suburban granny in the driver's seat detracts from the 'hip' image that Cadillac is attempting to convey.

Given how much GM was asking for the Volt, I can guarantee that this will be one overly priced Cadillac. I'll take the CTS-V instead.

This announcement clearly means that GM believes that the Volt will be a huge success and wants to get Caddy in on the deal early. I sure hope that they are right because if the Volt fails, this means Caddy has nothing in the pipeline.
