Lotus Resurrects The Esprit, It's Back!

Lotus has finally given the green light to a replacement for the Esprit, a model that will have an essential role in boosting the Hethel firm’s brand image.

Key elements to the Lotus strategy have emerged weeks before new CEO Danny Bahr is due to reveal his seven-year plan for the company.

A Lotus source said the new supercar (known as Esprit internally, but it could get a different name) would be an “essential brand image builder” and a “high-status purchase”.....

BMW V8 4.8TT over the Toyota V10 Engine...RPM is not everythig...in fact Toque with good gearbox design will be better and the with a longer life than the high RMM low torque engine.

The Esprit is entering a crowded market but will be a lot prettier then the Audi R8 and Porsche turbo at that under exotic 120,000-150,000 dollar price level. That's pretty cheap but you can get a used Ferrari F-430 for that and then it doesn't seem as special.

I still think the last Esprit is a great looking car, I'd be more than happy to own one of those although I hear maintenance is a nightmare.

This may be nitpicky, but with the doors angled in so much, headroom would be on the cramped side...

It would be good to see Lotus producing some good-looking cars for a change. The Exige, Elise. and Evora (the best of the three) are stylistic abominations. This single picture shows some promise.
