Sweet! New Lexus LS460 photo gallery-Exterior

Lexus revealed the all-new 2007 LS 460 and the company's first-ever long-wheelbase model, the LS 460L.

Seventeen years after its initial launch in Detroit, the redesigned LS now combines new levels of performance, sophistication, contemporary styling and luxury refinements.

"The Lexus LS 460 was designed to expand the definition of the full-size luxury sedan," said Jim Press, Toyota Motor Sales president and COO. "The new LS is the product of an advanced production process developed specifically for this vehicle with remarkable new levels of accuracy, refinement, precision and craftsmanship. Considering our record for quality over the last 17 years, that's quite a statement," he added.

High Output V8, World's First Eight-Speed Transmission
The LS will be powered by an all-new highly advanced 4.6-liter V8 engine that will produce approximately 380 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. Combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, a world-first, the LS 460 will travel from zero-to-sixty miles per hour in less than 5.5 seconds. With that level of performance, the new LS will achieve an estimated combined city/highway mileage in the mid-20s. Lexus is targeting an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) rating for the LS 460.

The new LS is built on a sophisticated platform that maintains a delicate balance between ride comfort and responsive handling. The completely redesigned multilink suspension system includes an electronic power steering system and a next-generation Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system.

VDIM is an advanced stability system that integrates and manages a new Electronically Controlled Brake (ECB) system, Electronic Power Steering (EPS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Antilock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and engine torque via the electronically controlled throttle.

Monitoring a variety of sensors, the system is designed to anticipate the onset of a vehicle skid or slide and then help correct the situation with a combination of braking, throttle and steering control in a way that is essentially transparent to the driver. Data is gathered from more sources and processed earlier and faster than in previous designs, helping to make VDIM less obtrusive and even more effective.

First Long-Wheelbase Sedan
At nearly 203 inches, the long-wheelbase LS 460L provides an even higher level of comfort and convenience features along with some of the most advanced technology ever offered in a production automobile. The four-passenger compartment of the LS 460L transports its rear-seat passengers in an environment whose luxury features closely resemble those of a private jet.

"Title: LOL - Lexus #1 Selling What? "

Apparantly cars people want to buy. You are faulting a luxury marquee for having an very successfull SUV?

"BMW 7 series, MB S-Class and Audi 8 get the prime parking real estate upfront, "

You mean in the handicapped spaces?

Lexus #1 in US because that's what people want - grand touring. Europeans have a more performance oriented taste. But then again, when it comes to luxury marques in the US, people tend to go for the badge, which is sad. Drive what you like, just watch out for door dings :-)

Remember that it took Mercedes a century or more to get to where it is and BMW about 40-60 years. Less than two generations down the line when it comes to luxury automobiles the line will be non-existent between Japanese and European luxury cars. We will be talking about luxury cars period.
Our generation and the next are now exposed to Japanese luxury and as they grow up, they will grow to appreciate them for what they are. Quality, Status, Quiet Luxury and Conservative Styling, which Mercedes et al tend to be losing by over styling their flagship sedan.

It is a baseless argument to say that these are cars built by Toyota or Honda or Nissan. You can say the same for European cars like Jaguars, Range Rovers, Porsche, etc.
Some people say that they lack performance. I believe 99.5% of people who buy the S Class Mercedes or the 725 BMW do not buy them for performance so that is a no-brainer. Luxury cars are meant to pamper you not make you feel every pothole that you climb into or to race down the highway.

I believe most of those naysayers are just repeating what they read in some of those car magazines that just cannot find any fault with Japanese Luxury cars but for the fact that they are giving the Europeans a run for their money.

May I remind you guys that that so called “Bangle Butt” is not an original design. This is a copycat of the Hyundai Sonata (1999) and Hyundai XG 300 (2001). Long before there was ever a Bangle. He virtually copied the design and made a few changes to it.

I wish I could get a better picture of the rear end of the 1999 Hyundai Sonata so that you could clearly see that this design has been around for a long time but nobody was paying because they were on Hyundai cars.

We can safely say that all these cars BMW, Mercedes, etc. are copying from Hyundai

"In March, Mercedes issued a worldwide recall reportedly affecting 1.3 million cars--and this recall was for more serious problems than unreadable labels. It concerned six- and eight-cylinder gasoline engines built between June 2001 and November 2004; battery-control-unit software on E-Class and CLS-Class sedans made from January 2002 to January 2005; and braking systems on E-Class and CLS-Class models, as well as SL-Class convertibles, built from June 2001 to March 2005, according to a statement released by Mercedes. "

"The slide show that follows lists 14 unreliable luxury cars, and four are from Mercedes. The only other manufacturers with more than one model on the list are BMW and Jaguar, with two each."

"-----But not every luxury automaker has problems with reliability. For example, cars from Toyota Motor's (nyse: TM - news - people ) Lexus subsidiary, such as the RX 330 and LS 430, have great track records."

"BMW's beautiful 7 Series flagship sedan was overhauled for model-year 2002, and it had major problems in its first two years. The 2002 and 2003 models had reliability ratings of "poor," the lowest, for their electrical systems and power equipment. A "poor" rating in an area such as power equipment means more than 15% of owners reported problems. "

I still fail to see why you BMW and MB fans almost seem proud that your cars are notorious for breaking down alot. So what you are saying is that by having a "prestigous" car means that it's ok for your 100K+ car to become a frequent visitor to the shop? What is the point of having a car that's great at handling and has a beautiful exterior when most of the time your car will be in the shop where only the mechanics are looking at them?

You can keep your Consumer Reports magazine in the glovebox to make yourself feel better about your Lexus purchase! Sure it's nice, but it's no Maybach. Anyone who compares it to a Maybach has NEVER driven or researched the Maybach. It's not the brand new S-Class either! Again, the LS is a good value. Lexus is ALWAYS about PRICE and RELIABILITY, more so than prestige or classic styling or superior performance. Without the price advantage and statistical reliability ratings, Lexus would not be half the success story it is. For me, I'll gladly pay a little more and take a slight statistical reliability risk in order to have a much more beautiful and prestigious and elegant European Luxury Sedan. The Lexus folks will have us all believe that the rest of us live in the repair shop. Ridiculous! From a distance it is hard to tell the Lexus from a Camry! (after all, they are both Toyotas!) On a side note, why on earth would Lexus put an SUV-type multimedia screen hanging down from the roof when the technology has advanced to individual monitors in the back of the front headrests? All the best use the headrest monitors now. It reminds me of the stupid flip-flop 3rd row seats in the Lexus SUV's that literally hang by a hook over the rear windows! Instead of fold-flat seats, they offer dysfunctional (and this dysfunction is RELIABLE, as they will brag about, of course) stupidity! I'll pass . . . thanks anyway. The new S-Class and others are simply better choices.

8) Mercedes Benz E

11) Porsche Cayenne pepper

Purchasing an luxury automobile takes sound judgement and rational decision. Would you rather spend 50k-150k on a car because you feel "For me, I'll gladly pay a little more and take a slight statistical reliability risk in order to have a much more beautiful and prestigious and elegant European Luxury" and burn your money or something that'll run after 20-30 years and you would still be waxing it as if it was still new and cruising in 1 Hwy or pass it down to your great grand children? Its your choice! Choice is really simple really!
For me, I'd rather have my damn Mortgage payed off :)

Regarding the reliability statistic...here's how it works...if your vehicle visits the shop once a year for a repair and the next one visits it twice a year, that represents a 100% statistical difference in service and reliability. If it visits the shop twice, that represents a whopping 200% worse rating in reliability!!!! So, you Lexus guys can tell the rest of the world how "unreliable" the "list" of cars are, but it is only a statistic that is grossly overstated, and barely makes a difference in terms of real life. An extra visit or two to the dealership service facility is not the big deal that the Lexus folks would have us believe. Often, the warranty covers the issue anyway, and with today's extended warranties, it's even less of a concern. Listen to their hype about "mortgage payments" and even more. The price differences between cars is a matter of the amount of car a person is qualified to finance, lease, or outright purchase. There are plenty of non-Lexus choices that do not "threaten the home mortgage"!. How extreme can they get!...with their twisted reliability statistics and threats to our mortgages! Give me a break!

Unless you guys saw Lexus as a potential threat, you wouldn't get so touchy everytime Lexus introduced a new model. Just look at the posts on here regarding any new Lexus vehicles (IS or LS) If your German cars are THAT much better than the asian cars, then why bother sitting here picking on every little detail that you find faulty about the car or trying to persuade others that your BMW or MB is better? Why don't you let your "prestigous" titles steal away the Lexus/Infiniti/Acura sales by itself since it is SOOOOOO good?

So basically you had a quality trouble w/LX470 and you've supposedly gathered complaints worldwide?? And, your calculations and deductive reasoning leads to "Mitsubishi syndrome?"LOL Ooookay!
So basically you are claiming that annual 9 million customers around the world purchasing
Toyota/Lexus/Scion brands have been taken? Whoa! Ooookay!

Wekor's photos of the Lexus LS and Honda Odyssey prove a point I've always made about Japanese cars: there is no coherence in model designs within brands. You have one model from a brand looking more like another model from another brand than models of its own brand. Without badges, these 2 cars are convincingly of the same brand.
