Sorry to tell you this but the new 6 moved to the fusion platform (in itself a longer version of the last 6) during its model change. So they both ride on the same chassis and are both based on the 1st gen Mazda6 chassis.

I've driven one, and it's...not bad. It's definitely stylish on the exterior, but the interior still seemed pretty chintzy compared to the Accords and Camrys I've driven. Oh, and the fact that it stalled...as an automatic. Regardless, I'm happy for Ford and I'm glad to see that they're succeeding.

Really? My moms Mazda 6 is holding out perfectly fine.

And bad fuel economy?

Ford Fusion 2.5L = 22/31mpg at 175hp and 172lb-ft
Toyota Camry 2.5L = 22/33mpg at 169hp and 167lb-ft
Chevy Malibu 2.4L = 22/33mpg at 169hp and 160lb-ft

Seems like it has competitive fuel economy to me considering the extra power/torque it puts down.

It's funny how you just mention the hp. The version of the Accord with 190hp and 22/31mpg also has 162ft-lbs. The standard Accord in the Fusion's price range only has 170hp and 161ft-lbs with the same 22/31mpg... basically they are charging a bit more for a car with a higher redline. Which makes sense. Putting all of these cars back in the same league as each other.

So UAW you would rather that the line workers in other countries make money and that North American auto execs get their bonuses instead of local manufacturing plants and their workers and suppliers making money for the local economy and the Japanese execs getting their bonuses? Perhaps the new Accord is just too ugly for some, the quality is still there. With regard to the Camry, it is nothing special. Its steering is horrible, even worse than a Buick from the 1980's, I can barely tell the wheel is mechanically attached to the car. The interior is full of cheap plastics. It just goes to show that in many respects, the average consumer's perception is no longer valid. The new Buick LaCrosse interior is much better than the current Maxima's... Sidebar: I bought a brand new Maxima in 1998, the main reason was it's VQ V6 engine and it's silky smooth operation. The VQ in today's Maxima is coarse, gravelly, and a huge step down in refinement. Also the CVT is intolerably weird.

People saw the upcoming Crosstour and ran screaming from Honda dealerships. In the same day they heard that Toyota is no longer offering mid-model refreshes and those people subsequently screamed and ran from Toyota dealerships.

Here would be my reasons for owning a Ford over the others:
1) Ford styling is more eye catching to me and sport, I like the lamps and grillwork.

2) Honda Accord is bland, and a step backwards to me. I am still scratching my head at how they decided to switch back to bulbs from LED taillights, and dropped the Hybrid option or revamped it.

3) The Camry is about as much fun in any style as white bread. It get's lost in parking lots.

4) Nissan Altima, some people do not want a CVT for an automatic transmission.

5) No AWD in the competition (aside from the Legacy which is overpriced and understyled). For me having AWD is key for my commute. Apparently Honda, Toyota, and Nissan want me to get a gas sucking SUV for that purpose.

IMO: I prefer the Malibu over the Fusion. My ex just bought a Malibu and I can only find two things to complain about it. 1) Lack of Navigation system option and 2) Hybrid version is weak compared to Fusion and Camry

Also my personal opinion: If you're going to go with a Malibu, avoid the two tone leather option. It sounds better on paper than it actually looks. The leather and suede look seats are much better looking.

I'm just going to correct u guys without bringing down another brand. Hyundai dude, Volvo may be considered a premium brand but it is not a luxury brand. Hyundai and Chrysler offer only two premium vehicles: Genesis and 300C but the rest of both their lineups is far from premium (and not even close to luxury). As for Mazda and Subaru? I don't think I need to go there.
