And I do believe that it was the Taurus that they would be replacing it with...

It would have to be the Taurus....

Unless they have been secretly moving forward with their new RWD program and nobody knows about it, nobody has said boo, and they continue to say otherwise in public...

But that is unfortunately way too unlikely...

But then again...

Our local police use FWD Impalas. The State police use RWD, mostly Crown Vics, with a few Chargers sprinkled in.

They are getting it from Dodge. The price of the police charger has gone down. The police charger is becoming more favorable.

A local in Law Enforcement was told to not be surprised to see a 2wd SUV...with a "lowered suspension" come out of Ford.
Plan B is a "stripper" Taurus with AWD
Law Enforcement ONLY...No sales to the general public

This is DUMB...Ford should try to lighten the Crown Vic...and put a Diesel in them, to improve fuel economy...WHY? because Ford "made the Nut" (development expense)
back on the Crown Vic more than 10yrs ago...they are almost pure profit.

Several years ago Ford of Europe had toyed with the idea of creating a Mark V Euro-spec Escort RS2000 into RWD. The basic idea was to use the transfer case from the AWD Escort RS2000 4x4, but without the front prop shafts. Ford also used a similar concept in British Touring Car Championships with the Mondeo. I'm not sure how they do it, but the Ford Transit (not the Connect) is available in both front and rear drive. When Rover decided to rebadge their 75 as the MG ZT, it offered a rear drive option for it as well. So it is doable, and Ford has the history of doing it. So if they are truly serious it wouldn't be that hard to give the cops what they want. The "lowered SUV" crap doesn't work.
