It's official: Audi to build the 'Roadjet'

Audi has confirmed that the Roadjet is to go on sale in Europe soon, which could mean that a production version will be shown at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. When it goes into production it will slot in above the A4 but it is still unclear as what the car will be badged.

The Roadjet is a hatchback/estate/SUV vehicle sized between the A4, with which it shares in underpinnings, and the A6. It measures 4.70m in length and 1.85m in width and in the metal it seems more like a big brother to the A3 Sportback.

Audi could opt to name the production model the A5 or keep the Roadjet name, but insiders say that this vehicle is probably not to getting the Q5 designation. The latter will be more of a baby Q7 and will rival the BMW X3.

However, the Q5, which is due for introduction in the next year or two, will also share its underpinnings with the A4 and Roadjet, but will be taller and more rugged.

I thought the Roadjet was a nice looking vehicle and I hope they keep the interior pretty similar to the concept when it debuts in production form.

"Don't expect it in the US"

- Why do you say that? Didn't Audi intruduce the car at the Detroit Autoshow? Audi showed the car in Detroit to gauge the U.S's opinion of the car. I wouldn't say to not expect the car in the US unless I had facts. Do you have any fact to back up your statement?

Here's the deal...

The new Q5 will NOT be based on the Steppenwolf concept. That design, which was based on the previous-gen golf chassis, is a defunct project from several years back.

The Roadjet is actually the forthcoming Q5 with the body cladding stripped away and many 'concept style' amenities added.

It will compete directly with the BMW X3 (and easily rival it) when it comes to market in about a year.

The Roadjet also previews the actual production version of Audi's latest B platform, which will also be used to create the forthcoming A5 coupe/cabriolet and A4/S4 sedan/avant.

This new B platform is highly flexible, with the ability to yield varying tracks and wheel bases. It will be used as the basis for not only the A4 and longer wheel base A5, but possibly for the next-gen A6 as well. It will not be shared by VW.

The new platform's heavily revised layout is designed to finally rival competitors like BMW and Merc by offering rear-biased class-leading quattro, neutral steering, and balanced weight distribution.

It is good to know that Roadjet will be a production model, and will find it's place in the Audi's small line-up.

I think it will be badged as a Q3 or maybe Q4,but 100% not upcomin Q5.
As u all know that it can't be A2 or A3 or A4 or A5 (which is definately a coupe/cabrio),A6,A8.

Man, some heated yet very informative content, here. It looks like Audi's so-called understated design language is about to be less so. Agressive, muscular, yet stylish exterior, benchmark interiors, rear-biased Quattro - what a great time to be a customer! And for us it's not about who sells more, but getting what we want. If you want to be like everyone else, get a Lexus, MB or BMW...
