Mercedes-Benz Sees New Baby SLS As A 911 Competitor

Mercedes-Benz has given its AMG division the green light for a second stand-alone model to sit alongside the new SLS, as part of a programme aimed at establishing the brand among the world’s supercar elite.

The new two-seater, which will be cheaper and sell in greater numbers than the SLS, will form the entry point to an expanded number of uniquely engineered AMG models when it arrives in showrooms in 2013.

“While the SLS was conceived to sit above the SL63 AMG, the new car is planned to be positioned a similar distance above the SLK55 AMG,” our source revealed. Priced from £80,000, its main rivals will be the Porsche 911 and Audi R8.

204E60, this is referring to a smaller sls as a 911 competitor, not the sls.

And 1995e34, I don't consider the 599, granturismo, and db9 to be real sports cars either. They are luxury sport coupes with a focus based equally on comfort as it is on performance.

Based on some people's logic, yes, no matter how well or fast they run.

I have never driven a Mercedes that feels like a Porsche and I doubt I ever will.

Porsche and Mercedes are complete opposites. The only Porsche offering I have been in that may come close to Mercedes is the Cayenne; everything else is just too comfortable to be a porsche.
