PHOTO GALLERY: First Real Life Shots Of The 2010 Lexus LS Sport And Hybrid
The Spies were hard at work today capturing the first real-life shots of the 2010 Lexus LS Sport and Hybrid.
We got a chance to drive them today and although the Sport version of the LS sedan still doesn't rival the drive of a BMW 7-Series, it is a better driver now than a Mercedes S550 sport.
The TFT instrument screen (replaces tradition gauges with laptop-like screen to display speeed/tach, etc.) only available on the the LS Hybrid was also really cool.
Look for our video tour coming soon...For now, enjoy the pics!

If you want to see cheesy-looking interiors, take a look at some of Mercedes offerings, especially the inside of the GLK.

And don't forget the 80s inspired E-class interior...a mishmash of angles and confusion trying to pass itself off as pretentious classiness...who are they fooling? no one...except the fanboys.

I find the current E-Class to be very classy. That "80s design" you people are bashing actually comes from the W124 cabin, which was one of the most elegant and classy Mercedes cabins ever made. There is a phrase that states "more is less" and int his case it speaks the truth. Simple designs with a focus on functionality and less buttons can make a classy impression. This is something the LS interior lacks.
Truth be told, class is something Lexus interiors have always lacked. I've yet to see an interior from Lexus which I find classy. Lexus cabins have a mishmash of designs converging together to form something so utterly bland and characterless and pretentious (in the words of 43LE). Now, notice I complained about Lexus interiors from a design point of view - not the cars.

I forgot to mention this.
The "high-tech" focus Lexus tries to show in their cabins is one of the reasons why their cabins lack class. The second, as already mentioned, is their mishmash of various designs that has no real understandable design language.
I've seen people make fun of the analog clock found in the Mercedes S-Class for example calling it "outdated". You know, that's actually classy. I find digital clocks to be characterless and bland - such as those found in Lexus cabins. I realize their focus is on futuristic design and appearance so in a way that is acceptable because it suits the Lexus character. However, Mercedes or BMW or Jaguar have their own character and thus a classic analog class is a great historical reference and an immediate symbol of class and elegance.

un, and just how many buttons are in the E-class? It also looks more cluttered than the LS for sure, intersecting angles and all. Just because it's a classic, doesn't mean it's good.
"Lexus cabins have a mishmash of designs converging together to form something so utterly bland and characterless and pretentious"
If there's one thing about Lexus interiors, they've always had cohesion, since the beginning. You can trace the design of almost every Lexus interior back to a common theme. What you call characterless is ignorance, and what you call pretentious just doesn't exist.
"However, Mercedes or BMW or Jaguar have their own character and thus a classic analog class is a great historical reference and an immediate symbol of class and elegance."
Wow, that sounds like an EL34 statement. BMW certainly has it's own character, cold, uninviting, tech, sometimes cheap. Remember that great 1st generation ML class interior? No one wants to.

In real life pictures LS is looking lot better than in studio and press pictures. Also i really like the new tail lights. Lexus revised the too curvy tail lamps and they are looking very elegant now.

If it is that than it is spot on. 7 series is a bit too sporty and S500 AMG is a great mix of powerful and comfortable ride.

I like the swoopy, curvy styling of the interior. Unlike some others, I think it does give it character. The design is very unique and organic which I think gives it class. It shows there was actual effort put into designing the interior. It sure beats other perhaps classy but stark and cold looking interiors of some of its competitors that seem to have been designed with only rulers.

The car looks good, however the two mistakes Lexus made was not offering the new instrument cluster on the regular LS, and also not offering the Sport upgrades on the long wheelbase LS. I love that they are getting more adventurous with interior options. The matted wood looks great.

QUESTION: Why does the LS still have that black display below the Navigation for the HVAC? Shouldnt it be incorporated into the Nav screen @ this price point? Why do they still have the digital clock @ the top of the dash? If they dont want to add an analog clock to the interior, @ least let the time just be displayed in the corner of the Nav screen and deleted that microwave oven looking sh*t all together. Funny how none of this was addressed (even on the hybrid) when they spent all of that $$$ on the LCD tach/speedo cluster.

star: you can't compare sales volume of a car that starts at $64,000 to one that starts at $91,000. FYI--that's a 42% difference in base price.
that's no different than comparing the sales volume of a $25,000 accord to a $36,000 lexus IS.

Interior is definitely an improvement. Exterior, unfortunately, is a step in the wrong direction. The exterior design had some elegance going for it that has now been taken away. I like Lexus but no manufacturer is putting a serious fight to the current Mercedes S-class, inside or out.

Lexus LS460 SPORT !!
Is that not a perfect example of an OXYMORON ??
I thought the whole point of the LS was that those who felt the S-Class was too sporty (?) could choose instead the LS which Cocoons its passengers and divorces them from the Noise and Hustle outside while they Waft to whatever destination they so desire.
I do not have much criticism for the interior other than that Wood which looks like Wood Coloured Plastic. I wonder who spends money on Real Wood Pieces that LOOK like Fake Wood ?

And are my Eyes playing tricks or are those Aerodynamic Modifications {Front Lower Spoiler / Side Skirts / Rear Lower Bumper} Stuck On ?
So Lexus did not feel that a Vehicle at that Price Point deserved a New set of Kit as opposed to just Gluing On some Plastic Bits ?
You will never See Glued on Bits like that on an S-Class, 7-Series or A8
and that is what these Lexus Fans never understand, cutting corners will never get you level with the Competition let alone Overtake them.

So you think the bodykit in the S class makes the difference. You mean the S500 regular kit and S500 AMG kit make some differnce. Recently i was driving S500 with S65 AMG kit and i didn't notice any differnce in performance or more grip when taking corners. It was exactly same as S500 AMG. Why? because it was S500 AMG underneath and only the bodykit was S65 AMG.
S500 and S500 AMG differences and that also just slight are in suspension, exhaust system and slightly sportier steering wheel.
No difference in performance due to bodykit at all.
If Lexus has tuned the suspension, brakes, steering feel, added some paddle shifters and revised gearing...etc of the Sports version than it is good enough. Kit is more of a show and to distinguish models.

All Lexus Did was Glue 2 Bits to the Bottom of the Front Bumper of the Vehicle and Glue 1 to the Bottom of the Rear Bumper.

"Aerodynamic Modifications {Front Lower Spoiler / Side Skirts / Rear Lower Bumper}"
You said and i suppose you mean the kit of S class AMG or new 7 series M sport is very aerodynamic and makes a difference in performance. I said NO the bodykit of these type of cars doesn't make any performance difference. It's more of a show and to differentiate variants. Performance differences are because of the tuned suspensions, brakes, steering feel, exhaust...etc.
Bodykits (both bumpers, skirts, bonnet and bootlid) account for less than 1% performance difference in cars like S550 and S550 AMG or 750i and 750i M sport. There are many S500 with S65 AMG bodykits, Porsche Cayenne S with Cayenne Turbo kits, Carrera S with GT3 kits...etc here in Dubai and i have driven plenty and they drive exactly same as the regular car.
