VIDEO: Clarkson Exclaims
Jeremy Clarkson, one of the automotive industry's most respected -- or disrespected -- critics has weighed in on the massively cool Audi R8 5.2 V10. And, the verdict is good; immensely good.

Considering he has driven just about every exotic vehicle that roams this planet, when he critiques a supercar, all automotive public relations gurus ears must stand at attention. Audi must be pleased.

Clarkson goes on to say "...on a track, doing this, the R8 V10 is simply sensational, I mean, just staggeringly, unbelievably sensational..." and wraps it up by saying "...but for sheer excitement, this, absolute class of its own."

And Clarkson, without a doubt, is the greatest automotive journalist I've ever watched. Thanks Jeremy.

From the same guy who states binge drinking is good for you.

What was his alcohol level at the time of this statement?

Did you read the entire piece?

"My handy hint this morning, then, is simple. Leave the normal people who do normal things alone. Forget about the people who drink for fun and worry only about those who drink to live."

That was the REAL message.

Sometimes you have to be extreme to get a look...

I would agree! Taking everthing into account,v10,4wd,build quality, and practicality. The 911 and ferrari are great, great cars, but there not as complete as this!It might be heavier than the others, because of quattro but 4wd will save your but all day long.

If don't know if it's the "best" car, but the R8 sure is a lot of wonderful in one, tidy package. Kudos, Audi! Kudos.

I really wish he would for the current series of Top Gear! He doesn't have to compliment it. I just want to see him have fun in it. With Top Gear now in HD and everything, I can't wait to enjoy the LFA's tire smoke and sound through Top Gear's cameramen's dexterous skills.

Are talking about the superexpensive Japo on Carbon Fiber with rear wheel drive? That's cool but different cars cause a Rear wheel drive never ever will drive in the same fool proof mode of the R8.

I test drove the R8 v10 for about 1/2 hr on highway and backroads. Even more than the 997 turbo, it has this amazing dual nature. If you want to drive it like you're in an Audi sedan, you can - it's quiet, comfortable, with great steering, brakes and a compliant suspension. But when you get on the gas, it changes into a really great snarling, sports car. It lacks the torque of the 997 turbo, but it has that lightning engine response of a naturally aspirated engine. I was really impressed.

But then again this is really impressive:

really looking forward to see the comparison test between R8 and New Turbo.
R8 V8 was comparing to 911 4S, now the V10 will be compare to the Turbo. Really wondering which is better!

depends how you define "king" - king of inexpensive high performance track cars - maybe the GTR. King of luxury supercars for the street- GTR isn't even a consideration.

So what was the Top Gear lap time? By the way inline, the R8 V10 has never beaten the Gt-R (ran together) on any track to the best of my knowledge.

You are right, the GTR's stig times beat the R-8 by a lot.

Although I agree it's an awesome car, It didn't even make the top five for EVO car of the year. it was trounced by the GT3 and they felt the V10 added little over the V8 except weight being "less wieldy, less responsive, and a less exciting-sounding engine" Plus EVO is a Brit magazine and eleven different editors test and contribute to the story.

Glad the big brother of my car is making the same statement. Simply put the R8 and the R8 V10 are perfect cars in every sense.

I don't know why the GTR is even brought in this discussion. We're talking about premium luxury supercars. The GTR is phenomenal but it's not in the same class of car. Inexpensive but mighty quick is what the GTR is. The R8 is a premium car with a premium sound with a premium interior with a premium badget. That is everything the GTR is not.

We have to compare apples to apples here.

You have some good points about these cars being in different classes, the R-8 is more luxurious and the GTR's stig time is much faster, aprox 5 seconds faster stig. Its time that Audi increases the HP, Fords 3L V-6 Coyote engine for 2011 will have 400hp and 400LBS! And the Ford engine will be good on gas! For such a big engine that the R-8 has it could be a lot better on fuel and could use a few hundred more HP. I would love to own this R-8 though.

THE AUDI r-8 BEATS the 911, it has a faster stig time.
