A $250,000 Land Shark? What Is YOUR Dream Car?
Every car enthusiast has their one dream car. The one that they will do anything to get, will put endless amounts of dollars into and will be the object of auto lust for years to come.
Apparently this one guy from California adored the E24 6-Series. I know this because he invested upwards of $90,000 into one!
Just over 20 years old with 150,000-plus miles on her, this highly modified 635CSi has an E34 M5 motor that delivers allegedly 315-horspower -- with this many years under its belt there has to be
some
deterioration.
Regardless, the seller is asking for $250,000 for it. My theory is that he probably does not want to sell it in the first place.
What do YOU think? Overpriced?
What's your dream car that you would spend countless dollars on to modify and maintain?

I would have to go with either:
1999 Ferrari 355 GTS
OR
1971-1975 BMW 3.0 CSL

$250k puts you into new Ferrari, Aston, Porsche, Bentley, etc. territory. I love BMW's, but I'll pass on this one.

Valid point.
But this is one SERIOUSLY modified car that has had everything redone.
At least it appears that way.
Although $250k may be a bit overkill, it is certainly worth around $80-100k.

I agree I think this car was beautifully restored this is a BMW I would love to restore also the 850CSi, and the E36 M3 are the BMW's on my restore list when I get some money to start throwing away.....but I dont think its worth 250 grand at all he might get about 50 grand for it if he runs into an enthusiast. I wouldnt want to sell it anyway that thing is too nice to give up

00R, my question would be since it is so modified, will it ever hold its value? All those auction shows on Speed and HD Theatre always say that stock cars sell better and retain value better than customs.
At the end of the day for me, paying $250k for a modified car just doesn't make sense. If I'm going to lose money on a car, I might as well be driving something new and more powerful.

These cars could probably be for people like Jay Leno not us.

@HS
You're right. Stock cars will DEFINITELY always retain more value because they are OEM and as cars age collectors want the all the original equipment.
Within the past couple of years, the vintage car market has been leaning towards cars that are all original -- even if they are beat to hell.
That's why you see barn finds fetching hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

But, he is probably the only one with this vehicle around. I see ferraris on the street all the time, this would catch my eye more.

This car is beautiful , there is a parts of the great BMW history, design and models , now others brands just copy and also want that people think they are better.
Those great cars are love it for people that really know about it. Not for ignorant and new rich.

Well it is probably overpriced, but I could argue my twin turbo Stage 3 S4 was the same way.
550hp is addicting in a 3,400 lb AWD car. So much fun to take it to the track and beat up on the boyz driving the corvettes. They never saw it coming until it was too late.

growing up, I allways liked the 933 Turbo Porsches from the mid 80's.
But, my choice would be a Countach.

He is completely out of his mind and no he does not want to sell it. He is more delusional and clueless then an 18 year old college freshman football player that actually thinks he will make it to the NFL and hasn't even hit anyone yet at the beginning of camp. He will be humbled as soon as he is hit! That can be a 250 pound all American linebacker or 25 years of depreciation.

Perhaps I am rather strange but my dream car would be a toss-up between:
1929 Duesenberg Model J. Each example of which was, of course, different as the coachwork was entirely bespoke.
1966 Jaguar XJ13. Of which, I would like to point out, there is only one in existence.
