Report: 193 returned cars in GM’s 60-day money-back guarantee promotion
General Motors Co.’s 60-day money-back guarantee promotion has had 193 people out of 222,000 return their cars since it started in September. Recently, GM decided to extend the program until Jan. 4.

Only 653 customers opted for the 60-day return guarantee instead of taking a $500 discount on a new vehicle. Vice President of Global Product Engineering Mark Reuss said that in several cases, returning customers traded up to another GM vehicle that has more features than what they originally purchased

Not for nothing, but the 193 is out of 653, and out of that, the 60 day to return the car has so many asterisks and conditions to meet that it was probably harder to return than most people thought.

So overall, did the program helped GM or not?

How are the restrictions a bad thing? If GM made this program without them they would get bent over as people would "buy" cars as loaner cars and turn them in every couple months for a new one.

I understand Joe,
But the restrictions make it nearly impossible to make a return. I understand they have to put restrictions, but to make it as strict as GM did, I think its too much.

I thought I heard this incentive was funded by an insurance company, the restrictions they made was to protect their best interests.

1UAW:
1) Low mileage is not too bad, I agree.
2) The no damage over $200 part, thats pretty unreasonable. Have you ever had a rock chip on your windshield/paint chip? It costs about $300 to repair. Have you had a scratch on an alloy wheel? It costs about $200-250 (let alone dealership mark ups)? Dents on the door? Dent Wizard is about $200-$400. Thats just common damages.
3) Must be kept for at least 31 days before you can return it. Thats a lot of time to rack up the damages.
4) *You do not get any fees or taxes back. You only get the money paid for the vehicle.

For me, most things are fine, but the damage/wear&tear is a bit tight...

The programme is being handled by an insurance company that has put those restrictions in place. GM has little or nothing to do with it. But I say that those people who wanted an upgrade found it much easier to take the car back on those grounds than without the plan.
