Toyota To Replace 3.8 Million Gas Pedals And Install Brake OverRide Software In Select Vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp. will reconfigure the accelerator pedal on 3.8 million vehicles that it is recalling to address a risk of sudden acceleration when loose or ill-fitting mats entrap the pedal, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today.

It said the Japanese automaker also would install a brake override system on some of the models as "an extra measure of confidence."

Toyota will reconfigure the gas pedal, and in some cases the shape of the floor surface under the pedal, to prevent unsecured mats from sliding and interfering with the gas pedal, NHTSA said in a statement.

What about all the other toyotas that are having unintended acceleration problems that are not mentioned in this recall?

The problem is bigger than toyota is leading us to believe!

Just ask this RAV4 owner!

Strap down your floor mats, fool.

There you go. Find a problem and fix it.

This should end the discussion in the style of "there is actually no problem, the drivers are / were stupid"!

The drivers are stupid. People are stupid.

"They" is actually the correct way to spell it, and yes, they are adding this--but only if the accelerator pedal position is at 100%.

I actually think it should be "They're" in the context. Note that there is not a verb in the sentence if "They" is used.

I guess there wont be any launch control in any Lexus or Toyota models down the road. But with them shaving some of the pedals we wont have to put zip ties through the driver seat carpet and around the seat mount anymore.
