MEC Design Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG First Detail and Photo
The Berlin based tuner MEC Design is giving us a sneak preview of its future styling programme for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which market launch is scheduled for the spring of 2010. With its design studies, the European tuner is showing just how the new Gullwing might look after their extreme tuning refinements.

The first design study features a transformed SLS AMG front and extremely big 22-inch three piece bi-colour mecxtremeIII wheels. The Mercedes logo star has been moved above the grill, which reminds us for the mighty SLR McLaren. It features a new front bumper with deep mesh grill as well as curved side air inlets. The side skirts have been deepened and now feature the MEC Design lighting system.

The second study shows the Gullwing rear, which is fitted with an aggressive rear diffuser, carefully placed rear spoiler and a MEC Design exhaust system.

The third render shows the front view again but with golden yellow finish and 22-inch mecxtremeI wheels.

As for the interior, MEC Design has only added a sports steering wheel with carbon fibre and Alcantara finish, which perfectly fits in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG cockpit.

“We’re very excited about the SLS, it’s already becoming a classic just like the 300 SL Gullwing. These first studies have received a lot of good feedback and now we just can’t wait to get our hands on one”, says CEO Cem Altun.

This looks terrible. The standard SLS already looks quite nice but these aftermarket treatments ALWAYS ruin a car for me.

This is a great way to make a nice car look like crap!

absolutely trashy looking, but you'll probably see this soon in Rides or DUB magazines. What a horrible waste of a great car.

Am I the only one seeing this, but the rear end remind me of the 1st Generation Acura CL, especially with the line in the middle of the trunk.

I would like to make this very clear. When a company decides to go retro like Mercedes has with this new SLS AMG you do NOT tweak with its exterior. At the most extreme wheels can be changed but that ruins the whole purpose of such a car. It's paying tribute to the original supercar the 300SL Gullwing so why make it look tacky with all these bodykits and lowering springs? Go do that to a GT-R or an LF-A because they would fit right in with aftermarket treatment, it's a Japanese import. SLS should keep its originality and drive as is. It's an acquired taste. If you don't like it don't buy it to modify it with tacky bits. Argh I don't even know why I am so upset. Do I have a point though?

I think you do have a point. It is obvious, to me, that very few of these cars will be purchased to drive the way they were designed to drive. Most likely, they will go into collections for display and eventual resale. I can;t imagine these modifications doing anything for the resale value of the car other than to diminish it.

If, indeed, the cars are driven to their designed for ends, things like those huge wheels and super-low, ground scraping add ons are going to be a monumental drawback.

Nor do I see the modifications as aesthetic improvements. But that's a matter of taste (or lack of it as the case may be).

There just doesn't seem to be any upside as far as I can see. That being said, I will only ever read about these cars. I guess the guy who can afford one has the privilege to do whatever he likes to it.

If I were to own one of these badboys I would only trust Lorinsor or Brabus to touch it. However history has proven that Brabus have made some rocket ships but some models have had too much horsepower for its own good. So perhaps the exterior modifications would be better. That's IF i wanted to touch the original styling of this.
