Ooops! Toyota Failed To Tell Dealers Of 3.8 Million Vehicle Recall

Toyota retailers are scrambling to respond to a decision to recall 3.8 million vehicles linked to incidents of sudden acceleration.

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. told dealers of the campaign today – after it was announced to the public. The timing has led to some confusion.

“We haven’t received any notification,” says Earl Stewart, owner of Earl Stewart Toyota of North Palm Bay, FL. “This has been one of the most confusing situations to the dealers and customers, and a little embarrassing.”

Bob Moran, owner of Acton Toyota in Littleton, MA, says he, too, was not told of the situation until an announcement already was made.

“They notify the public and get them all stirred up, and then the phones start ringing here,” Moran tells Ward’s.

Invisible,

I'm going to guess 100%! Darn shame, too. Whenever I see toyota and something negative I automatically link the post to 009...it almost never fails. Many times I dont even comment because clearly the man is going to be in trouble if and when Toyota comes from under the "no so GREAT" spotlight......

The only real problem I have is, as a news source, a biased opinion or way of thinking is irrelevant and an unreliable source. I never see the guy talk about anything outside of Toyota......But, I'm no on special so to each its own.

This whole Toyota recall topin, however, is dead. They are taking appropriate actions to correct the issue....All of them do it at some point

As many as there are foul ups on it. But this one is pretty unique. One might think if you recall 3.8 MILLION cars you would let your dealers know they might get a call or two..

Mason3Robert - There are ways to handle events and ways not to handle them.

When you are the leader your role SHOULD set the example of what to do. (most people don’t do this) In this case Toyota is just proving they are merely human. But an organization this large and priding itself on process control, it is quickly showing they were not up to this sort of a challenge.

I already have had two individuals approach me on recall letters they have received concerning models that are not even on the official list. So it seems we are seeing a knee jerk reaction to this event, with a lot of issues.

Now on the positive side here, Toyota looks at everything and studies it, so I know they will not make this mistake again. They are indeed that good for a reason.

Just remember one thing though: These stories all come from different legitimate sources all pointing out different factors, none were fabricated. So my suggestion to anyone that does not like the bad press is to voice their concern to the source or the article not the messenger. As the onion is peeled back on this issue there appear to be many stories to be told.

Who knows next

009,

I completely understand that you post from other sources, however, a group of facts from a particular person and multiple sources can make a statement and those statments can be biased.

As far as Toyota's leadership, well who made them the God?
Why does their leadership and company morals have to be any different from everyone else's? Yes they are human. Yes, they ARE #1, but because consumers prefer their products. Numbers speak louder than sources, opinions, etc. It's not like they took an oath that they'd live up to as far as morals, the "right" thing, etc.

Everyone had theirn day and today is merely a day everone decides they want to hop on the Bash-Toyota band wagon. Its much easier to blame and point the finger and as a consumer in a market filled with many choices, I realize I have the easy job. Job well done Toyota....still killing the competition.

009 is doing what Auto Spies does, state the facts, important ones too, almost everyone here is biased and if you think he is biased what about all the other blogs about other company problems.Facts are not bias, they are reality, like it or not.

And this is the Company that some crazy Americans are claiming is the best? Toyota is nothing more than a Japanese version of General Motors.

Good Grief people. Toyota has been pulling the wool over our eyes for years and producing bland boring copies of cars that we have been conditioned to buy. Wake up look at the test, and results. American cars are doing much better than ever. FORD is kicking ass.
If this info was about Ford, Chrysler, and GM the american public would be going f-in crazy.

fatandsassy - Toyota excelled when everyone else made poor cars. They earned their spot at number. With that being said it is amazing when a company gets this big they all tend to fall all over themselves. Ford has done it, GM and now Toyota, so may be there is something when you get to be so big you lose responsiveness.

Toyota is competing for the most unreliable vehicle company, this is not bias, this is based on facts. I hope Toyota compensates there dealers, the dealers should charge Toyota interest on the fixes that they have not been paid.
