LA Auto Show: Dodge Viper receives its last limited editions
As the Viper sports car will be phased out next year, Chrysler will soon be developing a replacement car that will appear sometime in 2012 with the supervision of Fiat’s Sergio Marchionne. In the meantime, we’ll have details of the last model year Viper to think about.

It will be an SRT version, which will have a limited run of only 500 units. But it’s not likely that any of these cars will look alike since Chrysler says that there will be at least 7,600 possible appearance combinations. Comprising the 500 units is an assortment of special, limited-edition models. One is the Dodge Viper ACR 1:33 Edition — a tribute to the car which set a new lap record last month at the Laguna Seca raceway – that will have 33 units.

A new car in 2 years? They have NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING IN the Viper pipeline, how the hell are they going to develop a new Viper in only 2 years?

I mean it takes 6-8 months just to do the durability testing!

Am I the only one who thinks scale model when I head of a 1:33 edition model?

The viper engine was not under-developed. What other 600hp car can get 22mpg? When developing the engine they decided that a reliable package with lots of power and decent fuel economy for a cheap price. Thought the hp/liter ratio may not be impressive, this engine surpasses all other competitors when compared to its other aspects.

*for a cheap price was the best alternative*
*Though the hp/liter*

Buy a hybrid if you want economy. No matter how you look at it, its a decades old engineering design 8.4litre motor.

what difference could that possibly make if it gets the job done??? Bentley uses pushrod engine tech that dates back to the fifties. if it meets the targets for power and consumption, then it's a good motor, period.

I agree if it makes the power who cares, some pushrod motors make more power, have larger displacements, all while getting better epa ratings and overall fuel economy than many engines using newer technology and having less power. EX. The 7.0 liter 500 hp Z06 15 23 vs the 4.2 liter 354 hp S5 running what 14 18(pretty sad actually), the 5.5 liter SL at 14 18 or the 5.0 500hp V10 M5 with 11 17, so on and so forth. If it gets the job done more power to them

What AMERICAN supercar tops the Viper?

Inline6, yes we are looking at 22mpg, check the epa numbers. Tell me one reason why getting 600hp out of a 8.4 liter engine is a bad thing. I already listed the benefits but here they are again, a. better fuel economy then 600hp out of a smaller displacement motor, b. since it isn't being stressed as much the parts will last longer, c. the engine can be made cheaper, d. even with a 8.4 liter motor the car still weighs 3408lbs, compare that to the Ferrari 599gtb with it's 6.2L engine weighing in at 3722lbs.

The viper is an amazing feat of engineering. For about the price of a GTR you can get a car that is faster than its rival the ZR1, not only that, but it gets better fuel economy and since it's naturally aspirated and doesn't rev to 9000 will last longer.

I get what you are saying, in the way that yes, this engine could be making wayyy more than 600hp, but at what cost? Look at the ZR1 in every measurable way it is better then it's competitors, but since it has soo much power, it scares the people who drive it because the car requires constant attention. So say they made an 800hp viper, it too would scare the shit out of any one who sat in it, it would get mileage comparable to a ferrari, and would have the maintenance regime of a lancer evo x.
