GM will not build a convertible version of the Cadillac CTS
Fans of the Cadillac CTS line are extremely disappointed with the General Motors’ decision to consider the line complete and stop short at producing a convertible. When GM had an upheaval, it was doubtful whether a Cadillac CTS Coupe or a wagon would ever see the light of day. But these variations are both around now. For a time, fans fully expected to one day see a CTS convertible.

Bad move IMO, a retractable roof CTS-V would probably seat 4 better than any of it's competition and based on how the coupe looks, be a real stunner. I know GM is playing it safe, but considering the relatively poor wagon sales in the US, I would have released a CTS vert over a CTS wagon any day. People aspire to own a nice convertible, wagons are purchased out of a necessity for some form of utility to go with the sportiness. Personally, I would own an RS6 Avant or a 5-series touring in a heartbeat but I don't think the CTS wagon will put up great numbers they should have built the drop instead.

I don't know about this. In an interview with John McElroy of Autoline Detroit Bryan Nesbitt (Cadillac boss) was being very careful with his words:

BN: Well...a convertible is...I think every luxury brand needs one...Uh...I certainly am a huge...you know...usually...
JM: Come on, you're running Cadillac man!
BN: I know...Usually coupes are beautiful, and roadsters are fun...

...and ahh...and you know there's just nothing like experiencing a great roadster. So we'r...aahh..looking...right now, definitely we're absolutely analysing...ahh...the potential. I'd love that.

I think GM was just a bit up in the clouds all of late this week and we should wait a few days until things get back on track before we take anything as gospel.

Maybe its just me but what the Coupe needs is an engine/model between the base and the V. The coupe has a different segment of cars to compete with and the 300hp V6(based on the sedan) wont have the performance of the 335i, S5, E550(which seems like the closet competitor), or G37. They need a higher output V6, turbo 6, or even a V8 to close that 226hp gap that seperates adequate and overkill

Actually, "Uhh" your wrong the CTS is the size of the 5 series but it competes with and is priced inline with the entry level cars much like the TL, ES, and G37. The STS was desighned to compete with the 5 and the e class, maybe in Cadillac creating a smaller car the CTS will move up market but right now that is not its intent. It also is all the more reason why they should have a model between the base and the V...

also the E550 coupe is the same size as the S5, and 335i despites its name and its price size wise it slots below the sedan Mercedes would like for people to think its based on

They have a convertible its the XLR. Granted a Vette in Caddy clothing but it counts. I would think he is being cautious, expect to see a convertible come out when the CTS is refreshed same as Lexus did with the IS.

As for roadster. Since Pontiac and Saturn are gone, the two fun little Solstice and SKY are still up and about for some needed luxo-treatment. A Buick version of the Solstice and a Caddy version of the SKY. Or just make one a Chevy while your at it.

How many times does one have to say that the CTS is E/5/M/A6/GS competition?!? As far as this article goes, this is old news. Cadillac's designers already stated that the coupes design would not make well for a convertible. (for some reason)
