Is Suzuki Crazy For Comparing The Kizashi To An Audi A4 Or TSX? Who SHOULD It be Compared Against?
One of the cars I enjoyed testing this year and was pleasantly surprised by was the all new Suzuki Kizashi.

Priced in the low 20's, the car is a lot of bang for the buck and honestly, the first sub 30K Asian car with a suspension that truly feels and performs like a true German setup.

I would highly recommend test driving the car to someone looking at a Jetta, Accord, Fusion, Sonata and the likes.

It's Suzuki's best effort yet.

But my eyeballs almost popped out when I saw the latest promotion trying to get people in the market for the Audi A4 or Acura TSX to test drive the Kizashi and if they still ended up buying the A4 or TSX, Suzuki would give them a $100 gift card for their troubles.

ARE THEY CRAZY?

Why on earth or how on earth could they possibiy think they could compete head on with those vehicles?

It's a nice car with some misguided marketing.

Am I wrong or right.

And your opinion, what car/cars SHOULD they be pitting it against?

For non-enthusiasts, the A4 doesn't ride nice at all, I've heard complaints ranging from it being too touchy to the gas pedal being comparable to a motorcross bike.

Whoever even thinks of cross shopping with a Suzuki is likely to think the same way. I don't think the bid is crazy.

The marketing does seem misguided, but it's an appeal to elevate the brand even if it's a blatant exaggaration. On paper, both can appear to be similiar, but c'mon - who is fooled? The TSX and A4 have much nicer interiors and therefore command higher price-tags. Personally, I prefer a more truthful marketing strategy. It's like Timex saying they are as good as Rolex - both tell time, but you know there's a difference.

Exactly. Recently Audi marketing guys desperately tried to compare the Audi A3 TDI (which is a compact car, 430 cm in length) with the Lexus HS250h (which a midsize car, 470 cm in length).

All this to "prove" that low mpg of the diesel (worsened by the fact it requires 12% more crude oil to produce diesel than gas) doesn't look that low when compared with much larger, more powerful, faster car.

Actually rubberized plastics in vehicle interiors cost so little, that they cannot be a measure of anything. It's just a matter of whether the manufacturer is smart enough to put them in and create "nice touch" feel or save few dollars and lose much in appeal as a result.

Advancement in engines, transmissions, chassis construction, ride comfort, handling, additional safety equipment etc: this is what defines "premium".

downtoearth- you should probably do a little more research before you post something that says that it takes 12% more crude to make diesel than gasoline. The fact is with the refineries that we currently have, I've seen numbers as high as 25%, but that's simply because they are configured to produce as much gasoline as possible. The actual cut of a barrel of crude is far greater in diesel than it is for gasoline, which means that if you simply distill crude oil, you'll get more diesel than gasoline (the source states 6-8 times as much).

So bottom line, a refinery can be configured to produce more of a certain product if necessary. However, refineries in the states will produce more gasoline simply because the demand for it is higher.

Well weren't they comparing the SX4 to a Mini Cooper? We see how well that worked :-/

If the FWD A4 was compared to RWD BMW, then why can't FWD Kizashi compared to FWD TSX or FWD A4?

Just like comparing the 2010 S4 to the 2010 335i. The AWD Audi out competes the RWD BMW in almost every aspect. Thus, according to you at least, they shouldn't be compared.

That's right, S4 should be compared with 335 AWD. Why they didn't do it I don't know and don't care. For me RWD>AWD>FWD, and AUDI apparently likes to stick to VW platform, in the name of MONEY.....

Hope they'll change now that they got Porsche. Let VW be FWD, and AUDI be RWD/AWD like everyone else other than ACURA!!!

^^^...you'd have a Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak. But unfortunately Suzuki doesn't allow it's motorsports elements to trickle down into their mass auto production. Hence the current line-up.

When it comes to cars, Suzuki is the most misguided automaker on the planet.

since AWD is an option they should compare to the Legacy sedan. It also looks better than the Legacy. And play the warranty card like Hyundai.

It looks especially good in black, but anyways, i think if suzuki SAYS that the kizashi is comparable to the audi and acura, then consumers (not enthusiasts!) would believe them. Also to grab people's attention too, i think.

(btw, it's " Whom SHOULD it be..." with an m, lol)

But...in the very near future, Suzuki is to become the VAG's eleventh brand so it doesn't matter. VW is already circling Suzuki. It's days as an independent are numbered.

If I were Suzuki I wouldn't mention the competition! LOL They are the most unreliable auto company according to JD powers, Suzuki suggests that they are comparable because they know that the general public is dumb and will believe anything.
