Subaru's 2010 Legacy, Close To The Bulls-Eye?
NORTHBOUND, NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE, EXIT 2 — What's that say? 3:23? Oh, mercy, we're late for a date with Manhattan.

Wait. That's not the clock. That's the fuel-economy gauge: 32.3 miles per gallon. Impressive.

A number of makers advertise 32 or so on the highway –General Motors is big on that – but it's hard to imagine actually getting that number running so hard up the turnpike, no quarter asked or given. The slow lane's hitting 80 mph, and almost nobody's in the slow lane. Getting 32 in that setting is exceptional....

As technologically/dynamically competent as the 2010 Legacy is, it's truly unfortunate that Subaru felt compelled to wrap it in such ungainly sheetmetal.

I think it's a more mature-looking model than those in the past. I like it. It looks much wider, with less overhang. It looks a lot more sporty and confident (in most weather conditions) at the same time.

My wife turns in her CX-7 this spring and is looking to get a midsize sedan --- doesn't really see the need to drive an SUV (too tall, gas-thirsty turbo V6). She had an 03 Mazda6s before the CX-7 and wishes she could have kept it. I told her that the newest Maz6 was nice, but I'd like for her to get the new Legacy instead. She can have a grownup-looking car with AWD and still be a bit sporty.
