Audi's Boss Takes A Stab At BMW, Says Will Not Market Themselves As Green

Audi will not follow BMW in trying to position itself as a green brand, according to company boss Rupert Stadler.

Stadler said that, while Audi will always try to build as efficient vehicles as possible, it would never sell its cars on the back of being a green brand.

"We will stick to our Vorsprung Durch Technik philosophy, not have a catch-all marketing claim such as Efficient Dynamics," said Stadler. "We're convinced in Vorsprung Durch Technik, we're a dynamic, sporty brand but not necessarily positioned as a green brand. That will come about as a matter of course...

Audi > BMW

that right there made me an audi fan.
im getting the S4 now, not the 335i. BMW is turning into a damn hippie.

bmwdrvr says :"just cant respect this company they act as if they have contributed something to the Automotive industry that hasn't already been done"

We can spend hours debating who invented what, but when it comes to leading the industry in certain areas all you have to do is take your BMW-colored glasses off to recognize that Audi is a leader in all-wheel drive, direct injection, dual clutch transmission, diesel technology, turbo charging to name a few.

And if you read the article carefully, it says Audi will not market themselves as green. Doesn't mean they are not green. It means there more to their engineering philosophy than just being green.

Another attempt by Audi to try and assert themselves with a lame stab at BMW. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a company going green. In fact, all companies should move towards greener techniques (materials used, recycle-ability, etc) and technologies (fuel cell, electric, etc), as the market will likely push them into it anyhow. The fact that BMW makes it known, is commendable. It shows commitment. In fact it has already paid off, BMW has been named the MOST SUSTAINABLE AUTOMOTIVE GROUP- not VW.

BMW tells the world that it is green. Audi tells the world that it is not green. Sounds like the marketing guys at Audi need to find out what people are buying right now - green cars. I believe BMW is heading in the right direction with this mindset. But then they go and build crap like the X1 and completely confuse me.

Actually, Audi has a problem: Their cars are by far not as efficient as their direct BMW competitors (the copy and paste engines form VW suck in terms of efficiency).

What can you do in this mess? Develop better engines? Try to compete with the Efficient Dynamics Standard? Nope.

Yeah, claim you are not green!!!! Brilliant move.
