Report: Spyker favored in Saab sale
Swedish news agency TT has pointed to Spyker Cars NV as the favorite in the running to purchase Swedish auto brand Saab. General Motors Co. is reportedly leaning towards a buyer that has experience in car production on a small scale, which it believes is referring to Spyker.

Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet said that Joran Hagglund, the state secretary at Sweden’s Enterprise Ministry, has informed GM it needs to decide this week whether to sell the loss-making business. A Spyker spokesman said that it remains interested and that it isn’t aware of any deadline on the process.

SAAB is just so screwed.

Hopefully, the top brass on GM's board of directors had a fairly realistic outlook on this situation with SAAB. No one capable enough is willing to purchase the Swedish brand...and only organizations marginally capable of running a brand as such are throwing their hat into the auto industry "ring". I figure that these smaller "boutique" auto companies think they may be able to construct a future brand empire by purchasing SAAB, which would be hard to do considering how integrated the brand was within the GM corporate & engineering structure.

I have to agree with this, unless the sale comes with an agreement of platform sharing, which I doubt.

Mainstream car business need a lot of capital, it cost billions to develop new cars, and you need to be able to renew your fleet at least once every 6 years. That is exactly why Saab and Volvo has been sold to big manufacturers last deacde, because they just couldn't keep the pace.

I was already skecptical whe Koeinigsegg bidded on Saab, but I think, as another user mentionned on that site, that the deal was in close relation with the Opel/Magna deal. The Opel/Magna deal collapsed, so di the koenigsegg deal.

Saab sales volume is too low to afford building specific platforms and be profitable.

Saab is doomed.
