2011 Lexus LF-A Vs. 1970 Toyota 2000 GT, Who Are YOU Taking Home?

2011 Lexus LF-A Vs. 1970 Toyota 2000 GT, Who Are YOU Taking Home?
According to Carscoop and Michael Banovsky, there is an ultra rare, sex machine up for sale. The car? The Toyota 2000GT.

With only 351 examples being made, it is rarer than most Ferraris and Lamborghinis out there, plus it is just as good looking to boot. Lovingly considered the father of the Japanese supercar, it is rich with heritage and groundbreaking for its time.

Carscoop reports:

"This particular 2000GT is 1970 model that underwent a painstaking and detailed restoration that is said to have lasted six years. The dealer said that the 2000GT had clocked 90,000 KM (about 56,000 miles) before the restoration started in 2003. No word on pricing but you know the saying..."

So, keeping that in mind, would you rather take this or the all-new 2011 Lexus LF-A. Theoretically speaking, the LF-A is a more powerful, updated version of the 2000GT.

Not sure? Listen to this clip of the 2000GT getting some action:

Well... the 2000gt is probably worth more, looks better, has parts that are within my ability to machine i.e. "fixable"... so I'd go with it.

i agree the 2000GT is a nice collectors item but if i buy a car even if it were a collectors it WILL get driven hard no trailer queens for me.

put me down for the 2000GT also.

The Lexus LF-A course. Why do autospies allow post like this to take space? Come on common sense here people.

The Lexus LF-A newer, faster, lighter and probably more fun to drive. The Lexus LF-A sound like a F1 car which Ferrari and Lambo still hasn't achieve.

The Ferrari and Lambo sound great but Not like Formula one car.

Fun to drive is completely subjective. And just because a car has massive horsepower values doesn't make it more fun to drive. I've driven extremely slow cars which were more "fun" to drive than some pure-bred sports cars.

I'll take the Toyota.

+1, I am with Willis.

That 2000GT is awesome.

And, this post is legitimate considering the Toyota costs somewhere in that six-figure neighborhood.

It comes down to what kind of driving experience are you looking for. Although the LF-A may be an absolute monster, is it as engaging as the GT? Probably not.

In addition, the GT sounds better.

Lexus you don't know what you're talking about LOL.

Ferrari doesn't need to sound like F1 cars because they are F1 cars. If you're buying a car solely on how it sounds then don't buy one at all. The 2010 911 Turbo goes quicker than a California, Gallardo (& variants), GT-R and many others but it doesn't have the sound of an F1 car (sounds a bit weird at low revs to say the least) but it's a great car. 0-60 comes in 3.2-3.4 seconds on average w/ PDK on a car that doesn't sound like an F1 car is impressive in my books!.

Judge a car by its looks, by its overall performance NOT SOUND!

The LF-A does sound nice but you can't put down Lamborghini or Ferrari. If it wasn't for those two Italian brands the LF-A wouldn't be here today.

First of all..Willis, not trying to cut you down man but your comment makes you sound like you're not all there dude. "Fun to drive is completely subjective"? A vehicle is either fun to drive or its not, boring to drive or exciting. In terms of which car would one choose...the 1970 Toyota 2000GT or the new Lexus LFA, well most would probably choose the LFA. Of course there's more to deal with choosing the Lexus LFA. Most could not even handle the stress and financial burden driving let alone owning the LFA. I really dont blame Lexus for selecting/leasing the LFA. They will at least enjoy and celebrate their due glory for creating an instant icon, The Lexus LFA supercar. Hands down I'd choose the LFA...I can't imagine the attention I'd attract being seen in that thing!.......Or the hate!

It comes down to which would you prefer...

The "Kate Moss Supermodel" LFA

Or the "Emma Peel/The Avengers" 2000GT

Without question the 2000GT. Best Asian car ever designed and most original as well. Instantly recognizable for what it is although I've never seen one in person, surprizing considering I've seen nearly everything made on four wheels.

Neverfollow is absolutely right about one thing! Neverfollow those who lack common sense in word or deed, literally. Listen to yourself!......"Instantly recognizable for what it is although I've never seen one in person...... You havent seen an LFA in person either, duh! How could you possibly know the difference? Although I will give you credit for instantly recognizing the 2000GT for what it is...The 1st true Japanese exotic sports car. What's with this: "I've seen nearly everything made on four wheels, who are you kidding? Honestly, I think your clueless to what we're dealing with here.

Hey on a side note, anyone up here know when the generation Lexus IS350 coming out? I hope the next generation Lexus IS come with a 3.7 liter and produce 330 to 365 hp and call it the Lexus IS370.

I love the current Lexus IS350 and it hard to imagine if they could come out with a better looking Lexus IS.

this is really an apples to oranges comparison.

the 2000GT is indeed a true exotic, and a car ahead of its time. AND a beauty. BUT.... while good for its day, it has a mere 150 hp. and that's GROSS 1970s ponies.

if money were no object, i'd put BOTH in my garage.

Lets just say I've been around the auto industry for over 22yrs. I've also been active in the collector car hobby for 25yrs. If I haven't owned it, I've at least seen it cross an auction block or two. I've worked in the industry for the Asians with Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura and have visited the factories both in the US and abroad. I've worked for all three of the domestics and have visted factories throughout the US in Detroit, St Louis, and Kentucky. I currently work for the Germans and have been to Europe to visit factories in Italy, UK, Germany and the Czech republic. I have visited the respective museums for many of these manufacturers as well. I've been invited to and visited proving grounds where I've seen cars not even in production yet. You can also find me at various racing venues throughout the world as well as car shows of all types from SEMA to Pebble Beach to ESSEN to Goodwood Festival of Speed among many others. It is surprising even to me, that I have not seen a 2000GT in the flesh yet given all the opportunities I've had.

yeah, but which is worth MORE today?

E-types unquestionably are nice looking, and much beloved. so much so in fact, that many have been restored. and almost NONE sell at auction for enuff to cover the restoration costs.

one design critique: its windshield is TOO UPRIGHT. the 2000GT is sleeker overall, and more Italianeque.
