Yet Another Shake Up? New General Motors CEO Not Interested In Position Long Term
General Motors Co. Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre said he does not want to be the CEO long-term and said federal pay restrictions are making the job search difficult.
Speaking to reporters inside the GM boardroom this morning, Whitacre said he is enjoying the CEO job, which he assumed two weeks ago after forcing out Fritz Henderson.
"I'm enjoying it, I'll say that," Whitacre said. "It's a terrific company, great future, great people. Do I want to do it long-term? I told the board no. But I haven't defined that. I can't define that myself."

I guess this leaves no doubt that the GM ship is definitely sinking. They can't pay anyone enough to get on-board permanently.

Further proof of to much Government regulation. Not saying there should be none. I understand the position of GM getting taxpayer money and there should be accountability, but limited compensation makes it difficult to hire someone that is willing to take on the task and responsibility. There are plenty of honest competent CEO that build and run very good corporations. When the incentive is limited the ambition is limited. Its a double edge sword. If a corporation fails due to bad management especially the CEO then let it fail. The good one will rise to the top.

The same regime that "saved" GM from financial collapse last year will inevitably be responsible for its ultimate failure. As a recipient of government funding, Pay Czar Ken Feinberg will preclude any viable CEO from assuming the top job due to "sub par" pay. The UAW (part owner of GM) will continue with non competitive "anti-business" demands. The POTUS, who in effect is the de facto Chairman of GM will direct the company exclusively in the direction of "environmentally green", rather than the most needed area, "financially green". The age old expression, "As GM goes, so goes the nation" couldn't be any truer than it is today. If GM survives it will be a miracle and I personally will be sad to see it go.
