Infiniti G37 Coupe Ads Claim " CLASS LEADING LUXURY". Even Over Audi. TRUTH Or BS?

Infiniti G37 Coupe Ads Claim
As I was surfing AutoSpies.com tonight, I noticed some new Infiniti G37 coupe ads running across the site that were DIRECTLY targeting Audi.

You can see them in the screenshots I took here but the message was "Class-leading Horsepower.Class Defining Luxury. Two things you can't say about the Audi A5."

Insert Chris Berman screaching soundbyte here... WHHHAAATTTTT?

Horsepower claim I have no issue with.

But "CLASS-DEFINING LUXURY" over an Audi A5?

That one sounds like it was penned by White House Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs.

Now I am NOT in any way knocking the G37 Coupe.

It's one of the BEST cars I drove last year and it has a lot of bang for the buck.

But even the interior in the Essence concept isn't higher quality than what Audi builds.

The new G37 Coupe has a nicer interior than the last G coupe but to my eye it still has some cheap bits scattered inside and I prefer the previous coupe's exterior design to this one.

The last generation is one of those cars that I think will NEVER go out of style.

One of the best looking coupes ever in my opinion.

So what do YOU say?

Is the "CLASS-DEFINING LUXURY" claim TRUTH or BS?

sorry badgewhore, not to be offensive, but it's too much in words for little content. The question was "Is the "CLASS-DEFINING LUXURY" claim TRUTH or BS?". Nobody can deny that the Infinity has a lot of power, but that doesn't really affect the LUXURY part that is in question. Obviously, the Infinity as well as any other competitor in the segment will have enough luxury to earn its spot in the market. But as much as I agree that the Infinity is a very good car, it's not class-leading, even less compared to an Audi, who always lead the market in interior quality, design and materials. Obviously perception is subjective, but saying that a $40K 4 banger is a failure in America is just not true, especially when that 4 banger is considered one of the best engines for 2009 (THE best engine for some)... let's not forget it is a car with high standards of luxury (class leading or not).

badgewhore is correct.

there is more to luxury than simple APPEARANCE.

luxury also implies QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. what good are fancy doodads when they DON'T WORK? german cars, even supposed lux models, are not known for reliable electrical components. VW is at the bottom, and audi is NOT a whole lot better.

even lowly nissans are more reliable than vws AND audis. infinitis of course are another step up.

not so sure XVZZ about your comments regarding reliability - looks like VW and Nissan suck about the same

Don't know where you're getting your numbers, Audi is #12 (not the top but definitely not the bottom as you infer) and well above Nissan...

you guys may THINK audis and vws rate 'high' due to the typically myopic JDP "90 day wonder" studies.

look at the CR stats covering 8 - 10 YEARS of reliability data.

Automakers can make all the claims they want. Doesn't make it's true. More horsepower doesn't necessarily make a car better. More of anything doesn't make a car better. It's HOW things are done that makes the difference. In this day of inexpensive technology, every other car has features which used to be reserved for the "luxury" sector. So what is luxury really? It is in the things most people don't see. And that's where Audi excels. Those who have never owned one will not understand. Like the windshield wipers that flip themselves periodically so the blades don't become set in one direction. Or an automatic climate control system that you can actually set and forget as opposed to one that always seems to be blowing too cold or too hot. Or automatic headlights that don't hunt on and off in low light conditions. When you start to see such details that differentiate a car from the pack, you know you've got luxury.

"Automakers can make all the claims they want. Doesn't make it's true. "

- Only in America. The rest of the world doesn't allow companies to falsely advertise.

Lexsux - they didnt make anything up - they have a disclaimer re: the horsepower claim (must back that up) and the luxury claim is subjective. It's no different than saying "this car is prettier than that car" - you can't prove it either way.

I have to wonder if you have ever taken a good look at an infiniti's, or you say saying things you donot research about, what they actual offer and you will see that infiniti also have these tech and even more than audi example the lane depature warning system system and nisan does not put all there tech in there infinitis I donot know why,but if you really want to see some of nissan oid and new tech check out the nissan fuga.

So what's this silly debate regarding, class "leading" luxury or class "defining" luxury? Because you use both. Although the definition of "luxury" can have many perspectives, class leading and class defining make 2 entirely different statements.

Logically, the statement works. Since "class defining luxury" is subjective, and class leading horsepower is not, Infiniti can make this claim. You can't say that about the A5 because (while it also has class defining luxury), it does not have class leading horsepower. So, yes, they are two things that you can't say about the A5, but you can about the Infiniti. I'm sure the marketing people went over the statement time after time. I should know, I do the same sort of things all the time at work.

Starsearch,

How many times do I have to own you? Can you show me a 4 Cylinder MB or BMW that cost over $50K?

If you do not respond, then phasers were set to "fail" and pointed at you. Lol!

And I can show you a 4 cylinder Audi that cost more than $50k. just add an option or two to the A4 2.0t and you will be there easy.

How were you owned? You were owned because when I mentioned that the A5 has weak 2.0t 4-cylinder engine you said that "BMW and MB offers the same". Which BMW or MB offers a 4 cylinder engine?

Just get the S5 and the Infiniti can go home. The S4 will take care of anything Infiniti thinks it can throw at Audi. The A5 Cabriolet easily wins justing standing still.

The infiniti needs a tick more head room and cooled seats...it also needs nicer interior plastics, kill off the Washi aluminum crap and substitute and more wood standard, not a 400 dollar option.
Audi needs to kill the 4 banger and naturally aspirated 6, make the 3.0 Supercharged v6 standard take off 3 grand, destroy and kill servotronic steering that is artificially horrible and you have the coolest cars ever.

I don't know what planet you idiots live on.

In the rest of the world people pay over DOUBLE what you pay for Gas in the USA and also do not need 300+bhp for their daily journeys hence the demand for smaller engines.

Same people also like the vehicles and the Luxury features and are willing to pay Top-Price for it.

So my point is this, if you clowns in the USA have a problem with paying Top-Price for Top Quality vehicles, stick to your Lexus / Accura / Infiniti / Cadillac / Buick Manufacturers and let those who can really afford Luxury Vehicles continue.

No point telling me a Casio keeps better time than an Armand Nicolet and is cheaper too.

You want a Casio, buy a Casio, Ill buy the Armand Nicolet.

"great post, nice how you backed it up with facts...or actually anything for that matter."

- Like you did in the other post about the A5? LOL! You didn't even reply back. And besides, the statement that I made was a subjective one. Stating that "Lexus is a joke" isn't a fact or a non-fact.

"At least no one expects as much from you, so you have that going for you."

- Stop being bitter. You were owned on the last post in which you didn't respond and now you try and turn it around on me. At least I'll admit when I'm wrong, That's more than I can say about you.

Oh yeah... Which BMW or MB has 4 cylinders like the lame Audis? LOL!! You said that "BMW and MB does the same" which was wrong. Now be a man and admit it.

With regard to Power the key here is CHOICE.

The reason Lexus never did too well in the UK and Europe is small range of Powerplants.

Infiniti is also finding out the hard way in the UK

Only Fools would Equate Hp with Luxury. Some people like One, some like the Other, Some like em Both.

Only a complete twit would claim a Corvette ZR1 is Luxurious and we all agree it is awash with BHP.

A smart Manufacturer will cater for a wide range of Clientele hence the Range of Engines Available for the A5.
For example My bro has an A5 Cabrio on Order; He has ticked almost every option on the List but he is only interested in the 2.0 TFSI engine and i had to insist he choose Quattro if not he would have gone with Front-Wheel-Drive {He did not care} and this typifies the average buyer in Europe/UK. They see a nice vehicle, they want it, they buy it with a nice small engine so they don't have to spend £200 a week on Petrol.

I will wait for the RS5 Cab but if Audi only catered for people like me they would go Under.

I guess you guys are still wondering why the Big 3 ended up in so much Financial Trouble ?

Honestly we all know Infiniti doesnt have a vehicle that offers class leading luxury, I dont really think thats the point of their cars either. ALso, since when was the A5 the class benchmark, it doesnt have the performance, nor interior grade to be the one to beat. Last I checked swarms of hard black plastics all over an interior have never been luxurious maybe in a 89 Camaro sense, but luxury car? The obvious leatherette door panels(that certainly tops the real leather used in the 3 series, and e coupe) and enough chintzy silver painted plastic to think you were in some economy car. Other than its styling it really isnt much reason to want to purchase the A5 it just misses the mark on so many levels, and its priced as if its not just a 2 door A4. The G37 doesnt look like a luxury car, and in pictures with other cars in its class it simply looks out of place, the interior is a huge improvement over the first generation but still nowhere near being at the level the cars it hopes to compete with car. ITs more a nice sports car than, a sports luxury coupe, Im the 3rd generation will fix this issue though
