Subaru to add rear-wheel-drive for its ‘Toyobaru’ sports coupe
Subaru is considering whether to allow an exception and adopt rear-wheel-drive for its upcoming sports coupe. Its cars have typically been all-wheel-drive but Michael McHale, Subaru of America spokesman, told Ward’s Auto that if the core of the brand is unaffected then it would be an “interesting option.” What’s stopping Subaru is the possibility that bringing the car here as a rear-wheel drive sports car will alienate the Subaru faithful, who look at all-wheel-drive as a brand hallmark.

I think they should just keep it AWD.

They would be wise to stay the awd course. Don't mess with a machine that's running quite well.

Subaru means AWD. They should not change and dilute their history. Also RWD Subaru coupe would directly competes with Toyota coupe and there would be very few differences.

Toyota RWD
Subaru AWD

Idea is good enough.

The Gen. 6 Celica GT-Four is one of my top 10 favorite cars. This would be the perfect successor to that car, only the U.S. might actually get one this time around.

If everyone else can offer both RWD and AWD, why not?

Both would be great but more people would buy the Toyota version because of all those millions of loyal Toyota fans just waiting for the return of the great MR2, Celica and Supra return.

Keep RWD for Toyota. The Subaru should keep with its roots and only allow the AWD version.
