Rumor: Nissan to revive the legendary 240SX
Nissan’s rivals, Toyota’s FT-86 and Honda’s CR-Z, have been getting plenty of attention lately but Nissan is gearing to strike back with an all-new version of the 240SX.

After being dropped in 2002, the 240SX (also known as the Silvia) will feature styling and packaging loosely based on the Foria concept car that was shown at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. The next 240SX will be built on a shortened version of Nissan’s FR-L platform, which is what the 370Z and G sedan uses. The resurrected 240SX front-engine/rear-drive 2+2 coupe will retain the predecessor’s image (the S15) as Nissan’s entry-level performance car.

All it needs is a minor face lift and chassis strengthening and they would be set.

I hope it's NOT based on 370Z's platform. NISSAN needs a brand new, lighter platform for its smaller RWD cars, instead of sharing with G / M's.

By the way, how about offering both an NA VQ25 and TT VQ25? And don't give me 54/46 'optimal' weight distribution BS! I want 50/50!

54/46 in a rwd car isn't that bad, when you're on the gas it evens out to 50/50. What is bad is the Scirocco and its 64/36 weight distribution LOL.

It's not bad, as most RWD with V6/V8 are in that range. But, 'not bad' is not good enough.

The '50/50 on throttle' is just another Nissan's trick. You want more weight(not that of 911) in the back so you have the traction to step on the gas earlier out of corner. That's why BMW, S2000, and RX-8 all stress their (close to) 50/50 distribution.

My ownership of G and 3 concur to that. Well, the lower gravity center of the I6 helps also, but that's another story.

In Japan the Nissan Silvia K's (SR20DET) is indeed 'legendary'.

I owned a couple during my 10 years of living there, and a better RWD sporty car was not to be found.

Both driving dynamics/tune-ability were exceptional.

I would agree the the 240SX (S12-S15) is legendary. Maybe not so much if you just consider the U.S. but worldwide, absolutely.

Oh, I should add, anyone who has ever driven a SR20DET motored vehicle understands. Too bad the U.S. got the truck motor.

. . . can't wait to see this:
I think we're about to find ourselves in the middle of a small resurgence of small, RWD, 2+2, import, sporty coupes with the new Celica, Genesis, and 240SX making their debuts.

I always loved the 240SX growing up . . .

Make the Altima Coupe a RWD and your job is done Nissan.

240SX is indeed a classic, reliable, and fun to drive. I say bring it back, why not.
