What a stupid article. Picking a limited production supercar doesn't make sense. They should have chosen a more mainstream vehicle that actually influenced the automotive industry.

I'd choose either the Audi A4 or the BMW 3 series for the car of the decade. Look at how these designs influenced the rest of the automotive industry. Most daily drivers have adapted some details from these two automobiles.

The E36 is the car that defined the small sport sedan design.
But it's been designed 2 decades ago. Only the E90 was designed during the last decade.

I'm talking the aesthetics of the E90 and specifically that of the B7. Seeing as they have been inspirational over the past two decades, this is a no-brainer.

I hate to say it, but the Prius probably had the most impact. Its a crappy little econobox, but it started a new era in auto design and technology. In 50 years, this will be the car most remembered (unfortunately).

As much as I despise the Prius (especially its drivers), I have to agree.

The Prius had a major impact, but mostly in North America. The rest of the world was already used to "little crappy econoboxes". To its credit, the Prius is the car that brought hybrids to the masses, but I'm not sure it can be called the car of the decade, but it's certainly in the top 5.

Listen you Prius wackos, the Prius didn't exist in 2001. Get it? This stupid article is about picking the car of a particular year during the past decade. This time its 2001, next time it'll be 2002, then it'll be 2003, comprendo?

('Cos I can assure you, having owned one, that no 996 is gonna be the car of the decade.)

and btw after my daughter rear ended a SUV at 10 mph and caused $12K in damage to her Prius, I officially vote the Prius winner of TCOY (tin can of the year).

The Prius was on sale worldwide in 2001...1st generation.

According to wiki, 5800 Prius vehicles were sold in the US in 2000.

The American SUV was made popular with the introduction of the Ford Explorer in 1990. E class was introduced in 1988. M3 was introduced in 1986. BTW, didn't you just discredit a member in this thread for mentioning the 3 series based on the dates of use?

If you give a moose a muffin, he'll tell you a 1988 300e is an 'e' class. Then he'll kick your ass. ;)

As an owner of an E46/M3, I have to say that it's an extraordinary combination of performance and practicality.

As of 2001....Hmmm The Porsche 996 Carrera 4 was a sweet car...Back then a lot of cars were really really really bad.
The Ferrari 360 modena was the first reliable Ferrari...Maserati was out to lunch...so was Aston Martin and Jaguar back then.
The old Mercedes 600SL was amazing before they did the model change. I loved that car....
The C5 Corvette Z06 was also pretty awesome in comparison to the lack of fun sports cars available and spanked the E46 M3 around the track.
