Toyota set to bring back its hybrid Supra HV-R GT racer
In hopes of making an impression at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Toyota will be bringing back its hybrid Supra HV-R GT racer. It can be recalled that in the summer of 2007, this V8-powered Supra with front in-wheel motors scored a historic win at Japan’s 24-hour Tokkachi endurance race.

However, soon after winning that race, the Supra went underground as Toyota concentrated on other forms of racing. We know now that the car, or actually the hybrid tech that followed it, is still around.

since they can't use the supra, what car will they use? The LFA? Or, will it be a brand new sports car, as in a supra replacement with a performance hybrid? If so, that will be fantastic.

I'm pumped, hopefully it comes in a road legal form, although if given a delete hybrid system was given I'd ditch the weight. And hopefully this doesn't pan out like the new NSX that shall only ever see race tracks.

So what will the production cars specs be? Will it be able to gun down a Camaro SS in the quarter mile? Or be able to get a sub 8minute ring time? Will it at least be able to compete? If I want to listen to an enzo through speakers I have video games that will do that for me.

I'm not expecting it to compete with the 911, I'm asking if it can break the 8 minute mark. And the miata although is only really good at autocross tracks where power is a nuisance. And how do batteries equate to handling performance?

I would'nt trust a word Badgewhore had to say. You guys just may as well fess-up and give the LFA it's due praise because this is one bad-ass samurai warrior...inside and out!

actually, there IS already an aftermarket device that will generate ANY KIND of engine sound you want.

i had referred to this as the ideal option on an otherwise near silent Tesla or even on a Prius.

in addition to all the cool, high revving, hi-po, hi-tech engines used in most fast bikes and sports cars, i'd also program in "a low-tech ALL NOISE, little GO Harley with straight pipes" routine, JUST to piss off joe lemon if i ever come across him in traffic. OR in a quiet park.

LOL how would blasting your speakers to the sound of a harley piss me off? I'd laugh at you for having wasted your money on such a facade.

lol. yeh, well, i 'spose a person like YOU would actually LOVE the crude, ear-jarring sounds of harley with straight pipes! after all, you don't care for sophisticated, quiet AND powerful japanese engines.
lol!

Oh! and by the way if Toyota ever bring back the Supra it will be Honda and Nissans worst nightmare.

Why will it be Honda's worst nightmare? Is it because it'll take down the civic?

no, dufus.

toyota's already just about KILLED the honda hybrids. this will continue by digging holes in the ground for honda hybrids, and BURY them!

I wasn't thinking of civics but since you mentioned them yeah..the new Supra would step on the little civics like someone stepping on a Hersheys choclate kiss...ooh! what a mess! Anyway, what I was referring to was Honda really doesn't have anything that really would competes with the Supra. If the Supra comes back, does Honda have cash to bring back the NSX with a V6 or something? Probably not. So like I said it would be Hondas worst nightmare. I'm sure the new Supra will pounce on the new 370Z and out class it at the same time. Oh well, just a thought.

I'm still lost, why again would Honda be worrying about a market of cars they don't deal with?

And I hope the new Supra isn't competing with the 370z (I think this is what a FT-86 should be aiming for). It would be nice to see a viable alternative to the GTR. You know, another sub 100k price tag attached to Ferrari level performance. It would make sense gunning that thing down since I hear Nissan is putting a hybrid system in the gtr by 2013.
