Is Acura's ZDX Overpriced For What You GET?

Is Acura's ZDX Overpriced For What You GET?
Easily one of the most controversial designs for 2010, the Acura ZDX looks as though it takes a page from the BMW X6's playbook. With its sloped roofline, it certainly bears some cues.

Although most people will point to its facade as a key point of interest, we won't because something else interests us; its price.

Starting off just under $45,500, it does not seem to be that bad of a deal. You get: 300-horsepower, all-wheel drive, heated and power seats, rearview camera, two-zone climate control and Bluetooth.

Step it up a notch with the Technology Package, you drop another five large and you get the GPS navigation unit, Smart Entry, multi-view rearview camera, an upgraded sound system and more.

If this does not suffice and you expect more from your ZDX, then you can obtain the Advance Package, which includes: blind spot detection, active cruise control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, six-level heated and cooled front seats, and more.

All of this does not come cheap though at a hefty $56,045, not including the $810 destination charge.

Is this excessive for a car of this trim? Tell us what YOU think in the comments below.

Yesterday I had my first Honda crosstour real-life encounter. Surprisingly, I didn't found as disgracious as I tought judging on the pictures. The one I saw was a dark grey w/ tinted glasses.

Since I never found the ZDX to be as ugly as the Crosstour on pictures, It might not be that bad at all in real life. In fact, I think it may look beter than the X6. What I really dislike about the X6 is that jacked up rear end. THe ZDX seems better in that area, but there's that infamous beak...

I think it's the fair price to pay for that kind of vehicle, even if styling is discutable, but I'd rather buy an MDX.

yeah I saw a black one on the road, I cant say I liked it but it nowhere near as bad in picturs as it does in person, its not bad looking in peson

do you think its fair to pay 56k for a car that is bascially a front wheel drive honda accord?

56K is the fully fully loaded version with tons of overpriced useless gimmicks. ZDX starts well equipped at 45K

Well, for that matter, how much is a fully loaded Lexus RX (basically a fwd camry) and a fully loaded Cadillac SRX (basically a FWD chevy equinox). Not saying that I would pay that much, but it seem to be realistic for a car with that level of features.

yeah I guess thats true about the lexus and cadi, but even 46k seems high to me for what you get..the 56k is more than a loaded Infiniti FX35 with similar equipment and thats built on a G platform not a family sedan platform

actually a loaded FX is also a $56,000 car and technically has less equipment than the ZDX so was kind of a bad comparison to show the ZDX is overpriced. There are compact SUVS that could easily run in to the $50,000s, not to mention many midsize suvs run well into the $60,000s with a 6 cyclinder engine, the ZDX isnt really overpriced its not even towards the higher end of luxury suv pricing as the X6 will easily run you almost $75,000 fully loaded with the 6 cyclinder if not slightly more. Not to mention both the FX is based on the G platform, just like the ZDX is based on the MDX also a luxury suv. While both of these cars are platforms are sourced from mainstream cars, the Z and the Accord. Either way they both are pointless trucks but if your going to call one rediculous call the other one that also.

How is a 810$ destination expensive when the hyundai accent 9999$ car is 710$ dest.?

The question at the end is not referencing the destination charge...

Pricing is a little on the bold side considering its competitors offerings, but not overpriced.

It could be worse. The BMW X6 with nothing but an engine and wheels starts at the ZDX's fully loaded price.

Reading your comments makes me understand why there are different design teams to European cars and American cars.

In europe people like the X6 more than the X5. They also like the Honda design (similar to Acura in the states) and dislike the american Honda design.

Amazing that there are so much differences in the taste.

This makes the $36,500 top of the line 4WD V6 Honda Crosstour EX-L w/ Navi look cheap. $56k for the top of the line model?!?!?! I pay almost $20,000 more to get an ugly beak, a second camera the ACC and the RL's collision mitigation system? Oh wait, SIX LEVEL heated seats. Don't most VW's with heated seats come with 5 levels standard, which is already a joke. Heated seats only need two levels, hi and lo.

Allow me to pick apart:

Don't forget, you get that fantastic leather
-umm, nice leather, yes. Fantastic leather, no. Cadillac, MB, Lexus have better leather.

the best NAV unit on the market
-easy to use, handy, but not the best. Ford's navi with Sync works the best, to the point it gives you pictures and layouts of how the lanes and exits play out up ahead. Very useful in cities.

hand stitched leather seats,
-mentioned above. And for hand stitched I would rather have Audi baseball stitched leather.

the best AWD system money can buy
-Compared to who? Surely you are not saying that Honda's AWD system can best a true Audi Quattro. And last I checked, the Subaru STi could do more in snow than this.

the Super Handling All Wheel drive
-SH-AWD is a cool feature when driving for performance, but most luxury cars with AWD can transfer power front back and left right. Heck (even though its 4WD) a Jeep can drive with one wheel of traction.

And I still cannot justify spending this kind of money an an Acura. Especially on an Acura available today, they need more design work before they start nudging into BMW territory. Otherwise we are basically calling this the poor mans X6

Dumb question as it is hard to think of a more overpriced fugly vehicle...maybe EVER...Actually more ridiculous than paying $34K for a loaded up - yet equally ugly - Honda Crosstour (looks EVEN worse in person than in pics, if you can believe that)...

This will be a disaster for Honda/Acura.
