Michael Schumacher Return – signs for Mercedes GP
Seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher has signed a one-year deal to return to Formula One racing with Mercedes GP for the 2010 season, Bild.de reported on Tuesday evening.

Having retired in 2006, Schumacher, who turns 41 on January 3, will be paid seven million euros (9.9 million US dollars) to be on the grid when the new season starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14 2010, Bild report.

It will be 1239 days after his last Formula One race in Sao Paulo at the Brazilian Grand Prix in October 2006 and Schumacher joins Mercedes in an all-German racing team after compatriot Nico Rosberg, 24, signed up last month.

Bild report Schumacher signed the contract on Tuesday at Mercedes’ headquarters in Brackley, England, to return to Formula One having won 91 of his 250 Grand Prix races and started in Pole Position 68 times.

I believe he may not win the Driver's Title, but I'm sure he's going to finish 3rd-4th in the standing at the end of the season. He's definitely going to win races!

He's still a great ambassador to the sport of racing whether he wins or not. He has proven himself time and time again so he is only in there to have fun and hopefully win. He's not expected to win but help with the overall ranking for the team. Mercedes GP should be an interesting team though I can't wait.

Does this mean he can't drive his Ferrari's?

I am sure there are some clauses in that contract plus he owns pretty much every ferrari under the sun sitting in his basement garage at his house. I am sure Mercedes will "GIVE" him some AMG models to take home as a bonus. well this will prove if Schumacher has what it takes being that he has been out of racing for 3 years. he is already a legend in the F1 racing world.

Just having him back on the track will be awesome, win or lose. He's done too much for Ferrari to have them disown him like that.

Very very good news. Can't wait for Hamilton vs Alonso vs Schumacher and all will be in potentially race winning cars.

Unfortunately I don't think Mercedes GP (what used to be Brawn GP) will have race winning cars judging from their form in the latter half of the last season. The double diffuser advantage that helped them win the championship is no longer. Who knows, maybe MS can defy physics.

This was predictable. MS really wanted to be back last year but couldn't at that time. MS always said, even after he signed with Ferrari that he would like to drive for Mercedes one day because Merc developped him as a driver. When rumors started about Merc buying an F1 team last summer, and after Ferrari signed Fernando, it was quite obvious that MS was to end driver for Merc.

It's going to be good for F1. Looking forward for the next season.

Let's just hope the Merc won't be a failure, still remember Nigel forfeiting after 2 races in 1995, that was sad.

YES! This just made F1 so much more interesting in 2010!

@Pennfootball: There is only one "e" DEUTSCHLAND, and the plural of Ferrari is FERRARIS.
