Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG VS. Cadillac CTS-V Which Is The Better Track Car?

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG VS. Cadillac CTS-V Which Is The Better Track Car?

The biggest of the V8s are on their way out. Mercedes has announced that the 6.2-liter V8, as seen in this 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, will be dropped in late 2010. In its place will be a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8. The same thing's happening to the BMW M5, which is slated to lose its 5.0-liter V10 also in favor of a twin-turbo V8.

So 2010 is a special year for performance sedans, and especially so for the E63 AMG, which is hot off a redesign and destined to become collectible. It's also hugely expensive in Benz tradition, with an MSRP of $86,625 that balloons to six figures with shocking ease. But you get what you pay for, right?

Then again, you could get into a Cadillac CTS-V for thousands of dollars less. You'd still get a 6.2-liter V8, albeit with pushrods and a supercharger, and you'd come away with even more horsepower and torque in a rear-drive midsize sedan of similar weight. No, you wouldn't enjoy the prestige and out-and-out refinement of a Mercedes, but this is IL Track Tested so we aren't smelling the leather or measuring the gap tolerances.

Yeah the CTS won...just until its time to trade it in. Then you're dealing with the true reality of brands that give most of their cars away...incentives aren't always the solution...I honestly think a diecast metal car holds value better than a GM....who would even pay for a CTS-V?

Why all the hate?

It's pretty much the same material/pattern as the E63, except at least Cadillac had the good taste to match the bottom and top grills, unlike Mercedes who made the whole thing look like some JC Whitney body kit.

A hood ornament on a performance sedan - Really?

I would get the Mercedes Benz E630.

For two reasons:

1. Driving position & handling.

2. I don't support the UAW.

You don't support the UAW but you support the German Labor Unions?

Funny, why don't you compare the labor costs of a German Auto Worker to that of a UAW worker. A survey done in 2005 put German Auto workers, the highest in the entire industry, almost 75% higher than US workers in terms of hourly pay. Not to mention the 8 weeks of vacation time.

I don't think you understand. I don't live in Germany, I live here in the USA and I will not buy any product built by the UAW. I don't give a damn if the car is built by a German Union.

Here is the USA wse build many good quality products that are not built by Unions.

USA Unions can go straight to hell on Christmas day!

I am MB Fan...but also I like Numbers so instead of the Merc, I'll pick the CTS-V and economy SUV.

You know what? I could care less about little numbers that are the difference between these two cars.

You're simply going to get more looks with the Benz.

Base E Class or CTS and a Lotus. Better question would have been "Which bloated pile of shit with a huge engine is the second best medium sized luxo-barge behind the M5" ohh wait the Audi is probably better as well, shit the Jaguar is probably better as well. So esentially this is a which is the best of the worst two cars in the class. When does the Sebring face off with the Kia Amanti?

So much hate between fat donuts & coffee eating americans vs. fat vodka drinkers. Cut it out will ya guys?. These two cars are amongst the most desirable sports saloons in it's segment. Actually they are all pretty good IMO.

That's great for Bob Lutz to say that. Now how about if Bob tells the UAW to go to hell and Caddy builds a reliable car.
