Lunatic Of The Week? Chavez Threatens To Kick Toyota Out Of Venezuela For Not Selling
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has threatened to expel Toyota Motor Corp. unless it produces an all-terrain model of 4x4 vehicles used for public transport in poor and rural areas.

The fiery socialist, in a speech late on Wednesday, also said he would not hesitate to expel and expropriate plants from other Asian and U.S. automobile companies operating in Venezuela if they failed to share technology with locals.

"What's this that Toyota doesn't want to make the 'rustic' model here?" Chavez said, during a ceremony in Caracas to hand owners the keys to economically produced cars that Venezuela's government has imported from Argentina.

Wow...some folks are turning Autospies into a circus...this is not really auto news...I mean, it is, but....

It's more of a reason to have 009 banned from the site. His stories, whether written by him or not, lacks substance and meaning. Many of them are mere speculation.

EVERYONE that reads Autospies can single handedly pick out his stories/posts. Want to know why? Anything negative and with a Toyota header is written or posted by 009. Maybe its me and the fact that I dont know how "operations" are ran over there at Autospies but 009 could be the victim...he could be assigned to Toyota...that could be why thats all I see posted by him. 4 out of 5 posts are Negative Toyota posts and to shut some of us readers up he'll post and comment something positive for the remaining entries.

Very predictable....BLAH BLAH BLAH...Sometimes I pray to not see the word Toyota!!!!! This is from a Toyota lover, but oh well.

"Mason3Robert" wants to BAN 009 from the site because he doesn't agree with his posts, such as this one describing how socialist thug Hugo Chavez wants to BAN Toyota because he doesn't agree with the vehicles they build. How appropriate. Words can't describe the ignorance on display by both Hugo Chavez and "Mason3Robert". I suggest you move to Venezuela and start your own blog where you can censor anyone you disagree with, a la the Venezuelan clown.

Actually I think I stated why I would ban 009...it had nothing to do with this story, but a combination of the posts he decides he should post and defend...thats the reason...Maybe you should read the post again.

And one more time for you, MBCLS07. I stand at a neutral point and strongly feel as an automotive news outlet it is the responsibility of the network or creators of the site to be as objective and open as possbile, However, 009 does not demonstrate these charachteristics. It's understood that one may go from 30:70 to 70:30 depending on the products or reputation but some, more than others, show more of an inadequacy in the deductions.

I can name 10 brands off the "top" that does not demonstrate success in the least in the automotive industry. BUT somehow Toyota, one of the most sucessuful brands in the world, is the talk of negativity via 009

Mason3Robert - I'm sorry that the world news is chocked full of a lot of Toyota bashing as of late. I'm also am sorry you missed all of the positive Toyota posting over the last 5 or so years years. Toyota is suffering a lot lately with massive recalls and more models coming under scrutiny in the last three months for various reasons.

But you know if we don't pass on the bad along with the good then you always see a pretty picture of Toyota, and that is a disservice as well. Toyota is a great company, but it seems they might have built a reputation of perfection they can no longer live up to. The higher they go, the further they fall.

(Mental note to self) - Remove Mason3Robert from my holiday card mailing list.

Mason3Robert, you're missing the point. The fact that you wish to ban someone at all, simply for posting articles you don't agree with, reveals you to be the narrow-minded one here. It was fitting you would display your intolerance for diverse thought while commenting on 009's article describing the same behavior by Hugo Chavez. Resist the unhealthy urge to "ban" everything you don't agree with. If you don't like an article, argue your case with a substantive, fact-based rebuttal or simply move on to the next article.

MBCLS07, clearly YOU are missing the point. ONCE again, my comments were generally stated and were not directly affiliated or tied to this post...

AND

Just in case you didn't "get-it", Badgewhore explained it perfectly. I when I used the term "ban" please know that it was my dennotation of ban, I mean, how can "I" ban anyone from this site? I cant! It's just a figure of peech and not to be taken literally...like 009

And yes...the typing and grammer is all screwed up...lol Sorry about that. I believe in giving credit where it's due. Toyota, as of late, has not been unfamiliar with drama. In fact, they are probably the most talked about outside of those directly dealing with the current economic reccession, i.e, Bankruptcy, Brand-canning, Aquisitions, etc.

However, like Badgewhore states, Toyota has commendably and consistently built a good product that proved more than once to be more than just a purchase, but more of an investement. Based on statistics, no other brand can say too much on the following, ALL AT ONCE:

Reliabilty
Performance - sometimes lol
Evolution - certain items
Sales
Profit - once upon a time
Class Domination
Residual Value
Build Quality

I understand that we all have out days, but for someone to blatently push the idea that Toyota is a POS and was never worth the name they were earned, is rediculous...But thats just my opinion and I do believe that I said opinions dont matter.

Mason3Robert, you're being ridiculous and disingenuous. Nowhere did I state that it was ONLY this post by 009 you were responding to. In fact, I used the term "posts" in my previous comment. Again, the fact that you chose this article discussing the intolerance and stupidity of Hugo Chavez to post your own intolerant and stupid comment is fitting. If you still can't understand why, I can't help you. Clearly you are clearly being dishonest when you suggest your comments had nothing to do with this post. Of course they did, otherwise you wouldn't have been prompted to call for your ban on 009 articles in the comment section of THIS article. To suggest that this article had nothing to do with your response, despite the inclusion of negative Toyota news to which you stand so vehemently against, defies credulity.

lol!

toyota actually makes arguably THE BEST 4x4 vehicles. the only validity to the complaint, is that they tend NOT to be cheap enuff for rural peasants.

BEST 4x4 vehicles by Toyota? As for off roading goes, since you have not done much of it, a new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and over 10 inches of ground clearance with locking front and rear differentials, real off road tires will destroy any stock Toyota 4x4. It has victory by design and better solid front axles that provide more grip, better articulation, and better flexibility over obstacles. No Toyota has a locking front differential...not even the land cruiser.

go to ANY third world country. count the number of jeeps you see. then count the number of land cruisers.

canvass all the repair shops you can find. count the jeeps. count the toyotas.

'nuff said.

(rubicon is just a PLAYGROUND, little relation to REAL WORLD.)

furthermore, look at the Reliability records in CR charts.

NO ONE makes a 4wd or awd that is even "average" except for toyota and maybe a few subarus and hondas.

4wd toyota trucks can be EVEN MORE RELIABLE than many 2wd trucks made by the competition.

Well the Rubicon can come to my "playground" and you can bring any Toyota and see who gets stuck yum yum! And if you would like I can bring my rubicon to your playground, and I will even pay you to play in your playground.

when you live in alaska like i do, you don't NEED no stinkin' playgrounds. all ya gotta do if you want to go mudding is go off in the boonies ANYWHERE.

and i can assure you, NOT a whole lot of jeep owners do that, if they do not have buddies along who can help with a tow or fixing a BREAKDOWN. most jeep owners here get them mainly for the 4x4 traction on winter roads. and most complain about the frequent need for shop visits, so they tend to NOT DARE put their jeeps under undue stress. UNLESS they can fix them themselves.

on the other hand, next to subies, toyotas are the MOST POPULAR awd/4x4 vehicles in the whole state. and the further you get away from urban centers (and repair shops), the MORE TOYOTAs you will see.

one mite also see a bunch of (mostly) ford pickups in rural areas, just because they're cheaper and easier to fix than late model toyotas.

anyone and everyone who gets NO PLEASURE working on their vehicles, or paying someone for fixes, eventually gravitates toward a toyota. this likely happens everywhere, but the extreme cold and rough roads, make this trend MUCH MORE EVIDENT here.

Umm....yeah!
